A History of the Oshawa Public Library
Branching Out - North Simcoe

With the growing city came a new branch in the north end of the city. Opened on 25 Feb 1969, the North Simcoe Branch was located in a leased space in a shopping plaza at 1050 Simcoe Street North. It opened with a collection of 60,000 volumes, registering 6311 new members in the first year and offering regular story times and educational programs.

In 1979, after 10 years in operation, the lease on the North Simcoe branch space was renewed, but on a short-term basis. At this time, the Library Board began plans to expand or re-locate in North Oshawa to meet increasing demand as the city continued to grow.
