WHY CHRISTMAG 15 HFLO OX MONDAY THIS YFAR This Must be the Genuine Rea: Please Accept No Substitutes. Christmas Day this year falls upon a Sunday, and so the holiday is to be observed on Monday, Dec. 26th. The reason for this, no doubt, is not far to seek. Hon. Mr. Raney is it. The Honâ€" ourable Mr. Raney objects to anyâ€" thing on Sunday except cold meats, church, temperance meetings, his own politics and other prayers. «He will not have concerts on Sunday; there must not be any swimming on Sunâ€" day; no ice cream on Sunday; it is a crime for a child to buy a chocolate bar on Sunday ; baseball is forbiddent on Sunday; and it is terrible indesd to have any recreation or amusement on Sunday, if we are to believe Hon. Mr. Raney,â€"which we are not. But Hon. Mr. Raney could hardly be exâ€" pected to stand for Christmas falling on a Sunday. Sunday is a day of sadâ€" ness, says the Attorneyâ€"General, .30 Christmas must be set over by some other day. So Christmas Day is to be the Day After. Nevertheless, we all wish Hon. Mr. Raney a Merry Christmas,â€"both Sunâ€" day and Monday. That is the true spirit of Christmas. And Christmas spirit is searce enough these days, eh what, old top? + Oh, well, Merry Christmas anyway to everybody, even to the boobs and the rubes that have this Province unâ€" der their rubber heels. Merry Christmas! REGULATIONS REGARDING HOISTHNG ROPE TESTS The amendment to the Mining Act, passed in 1919, regarding testing a portion of hoisting ropes, comes in force next year, at varying times. The new regulation is laid down in Rule 68, Section 164, of the Mining Amendâ€" ment Act, and is as follows: f ‘*At least once in every six months the hoisting rope shall have a portion not less than six feet in length eut off the lower end. With the excepâ€" tion of the cutting at the end of the first six months the length so cut off shall have the ends adequately fasâ€" tened with binding wire to prevent the disturbance of the strands and shall be sent to a reliable testing labâ€" oratory for a breaking test. The cerâ€" tificate of such test shall be kept on file. ‘This rule shall not come into efâ€" fect until proclaimed by the Lieutenâ€" ant Governor in Council." The proclamation has been issued and the rule comes into effect as folâ€" lows :â€" â€" !‘In the Mining Divisions «. ~¢â€" nora, Fort Frances, Kowkash and Port Arthur on the first day of Januâ€" ary, 1922; ‘"In the Mining Divisions of Sauit Ste. The company was formed for the purpose of deâ€" veloping water power on the Montreâ€" al River in the Matatchewan area. It is stated that the water powers conâ€" trolled by the company will produce a maximum of 12,500 horse power. The completion of the development of this power will certainly be a good boost for the Matatchewan district. It will give opportunity to inaugurate exâ€" tensive operations at the several proâ€" perties around Fort Matatchewan, and it is understood that the company will &@lso be able to supply power to Gowganda and West Shiningtree. This is all to the good. ‘COh, I‘m so sorry,‘‘ said his wife. ‘«What is it for?"‘ ‘©For your first husband,‘‘ he reâ€" plied. ‘‘I‘m sorry he died."‘ He had married a widow and all went well for a week when they had their first quarrel. The next day he came down to breakfast with a mournâ€" ing band on his arm. As Thubway Tham would say, ‘"Thith temperanth thuff ith the bunk!‘‘ â€"Other hotels .occasionally have a vacant room, but the Hotel de Greer, having retained its bars, is full up all the time,.
