PAGE 8 â€" WATERLOO CHRONICLE, WEDNESDAY. JANUARY 5. 1994 Letter‘s misinformation fans flames of discontent Teachers and most other public service employees were 1993‘s favorite scapegoat. Inaccurate statements such as those printed in the letter "Teachers are the spoiled children of society" (December 22) only fan the flames of discontent. Firstly, the most qualified teachâ€" ers in the Waterloo County Board of Education make $64,000 not $65,000. Secondly, teachers pay into their pension plan from that salary just as a lawyer would if he or she participated in a plan. The teacher menâ€" tioned above pays $5,696 a year into the Teachers‘ Pension Plan. Regarding sick days, the accumulated days are capped at the number that may be taken for sick leave purposes. It must be documented by a physician that the person is unable to work. Teachers pay their amounts to $480 per year. I hope this clarifies some of the misinformation in the letter. Teachers are not clock punchers â€" unfortunately. At times, I wish we were required to log the hours of work done at school with students, the hours of markâ€" ing and preparation done both at school and at home over the course of a year. Just as a lawyer is not credâ€" ited only for the time spent in court, teachers are comâ€" pensatedford\efixlljob.'nwremmmymmwhy Association meets The Adoptive Parents Association meets Tuesday, Jan. 11, 7:30 p.m., at St. Anne‘s Sehool Library, 250 East Ave. Kitchener.
