Inaccurate statements such as those printed in the letter "Teachers are the spoiled children of society" (December 22) only fan the flames of discontent. Firstly, the most qualified teachâ€" ers in the Waterloo County Board of Education make $64,000 not $65,000. Secondly, teachers pay into their pension plan from that salary just as a lawyer would if he or she participated in a plan. The teacher menâ€" tioned above pays $5,696 a year into the Teachers‘ Pension Plan. Regarding sick days, the accumulated days are capped at the number that may be taken for sick leave purposes. It must be documented by a physician that the person is unable to work. Teachers pay their amounts to $480 per year. I hope this clarifies some of the misinformation in the letter.
