Last year 375 people raised $12,000 to help buy equipment Swing dance for OTMH Enjoy an evening of dancing at the second annual Swing Is The Thing Dance-A-Thon, a fundraiser for Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital's equipment needs. The dance will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26th at the Le Dome Banquet Hall, 1173 North Service Rd. E., from 6 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $8. Included in the evening will be a professional dance show presented by event sponsor, Oakville's Arthur Murray Dance Studio, free group dance lessons, dessert and coffee, door prizes, plus a cash bar. Last year's event raised $12,000, said Cathy Dutka of OTMH, one of the organizers. The money is allocated for the hospital's equip ment needs by the OTMH Charitable Corporation, she said. "Equipment needs may include specialized beds, new glucose monitoring devices and intra venous pumps, for example," she explained. Volunteers are needed to help solicit sponsor ships and sell tickets. Sponsor forms and tickets are available at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, 9 Lakeshore Rd. W. at Brant Street, 849-0707. "It's difficult to find volunteers at this time of year," explains Sandy Beveridge, executive direc tor of the Centre. "Yet, we experience the highest volume of calls in the winter months." Currently, the Centre handles over 10,000 calls a year and relies entirely on volunteers to staff the phone lines. A new volunteer training session is to begin soon. After extensive training in listening and cri sis management skills, volunteers are asked to commit to 12 hours per month on the phone lines.
