"It's difficult to find volunteers at this time of year," explains Sandy Beveridge, executive direc tor of the Centre. "Yet, we experience the highest volume of calls in the winter months." Currently, the Centre handles over 10,000 calls a year and relies entirely on volunteers to staff the phone lines. A new volunteer training session is to begin soon. After extensive training in listening and cri sis management skills, volunteers are asked to commit to 12 hours per month on the phone lines. To find out about volunteering, call Distress Centre Oakville at 849-4541.
