bus trip to Agawa Canyon over 100 attended the first regular meeting of the Golden Age Club held at the community centre Hamid Pearson presided and Rev Bridle conducted the devotional period on the theme Christian Faith pointing out that although we may represent many denominations we share the same faitha life of faith joy satisfaction and good cheer concluding with the challengelet us share our Joyli Miss Joyce Moisey co ordinator of programs for senior citizens for Simcoe Coun ty briefly outlined craft program set up during the sum mer with instruction books available to clubs and in dividual members Mrs Allan Latimer in troduced the guest speaker Mrs Beattie who described methods of farming govern ment industry education culture and health facilities of China with such vast population as observed on tour last March She continued with travelogue of the trip followed by slides and her display of articles she had brought home attracted much attention Mrs Kennett ex pressed appreciation to Mrs Beattie Membership convener repor ted 384 paid up members as of July and announcements of ac tivities soon to resume included Iadies and mens bowling choir rehearsals bus trips and craftclasses MOURNED Three wellknown Alliston residents passed away within week all members of the local senior Citizen club Mary Elinor Corbett Smith passed away at Stevenson Memorial Hospital on Monday September 13 Besides her husband Edmond she leaves son Ross in Min tnesota and Joe of Wine dsor seven grandchildren and two brothers and sister Grace Willoughby Cave widow of Lyman Cave also died suddenly on Thursday Sep tember 16 in her 86th year Sh is survived by neices and nephews On Monday Se tember 20 Mary Gourley wi ow of Gourley passed away at Creemore Nursing Home She is survived by son Tom in Alliston daughter Eileen of Kenora and daughter Marguerite and son Raymond in Toronto also several gran children All funeral services were in Alliston with interment in Alliston Cemetery Mr and Mrs Burl Hanes of Houston Texas were recent guests of Mr and Mrs Roy Haddock and other friends in tOWn Mrs Marguerite Cun ningham was guest at the wedding of Alvin Thomas Var coe to Mary Eleanor Little solemnized at the Sandhill United Church on Saturday and reception which followed at the Beeton United Church The young couple will be residing in Peterborough Bob Malc01m left at the week end to enrol at the College of Electronics near Malton Mrs Flora Smith ac companied her granddaughter Miss Sharon Smith to visit Mrs Horner at Hillsburg on Sunday Mrs Lee Kennett was in charge of bus trip to North Bay followed by Boat Cruise last week Jennifer and Michael Stoltz of Stratford spent few days last week at the home of their grandparents Mr and Mrs Elmer Stoltz Special recreation volunteers are needed Volunteers are needed quite badly if any type of quality pro gram is to operate Lesley Gordon needs help She sent 12 dozen letters to parents and guardians of men tally retarded people in the Barrie area telling them about special recreational program in the city for mentally retarded people The program is scheduled to start Oct 18 But she would like some volunterrs to help her Mrs Gordon told the Barrie recreation advisory committee Thursday she can run the pro gram as it is planned now Butit is fairly limited she said and will only include teen igers and adults The problem is that Im the only one working on it she said And only know so many crafts and so many games The program includes teaching various crafts yoga floor hockey cooking and danc ing And Mrs Gordon would like it to expand to include all ages of mentally retarded in the area She has prepared handbook for volunteers in her special recreation services branch of the cityepartment of parks and recreation The book explains how impor tant the volunteers are and outlines the purpose of the pro gram Mrs Gordon who specializes in therapeutic recreation said the program has ulterior motives behind the fun recrea tional activities She said the idea is to teach the people to adapt to their disabilities The program development is funded by ministry of com munity services grant for $10000 to the city Mrs Gordon said she hoped by the time the grant money was used the special recrea tion programs would be operating for all handicapped people in the city Gary Stoner director of parks and recreation said Bar rie is pioneering the pro gram and it is being well documented for other municipalities Were very excited about the program he said Too lone weve tried to integrate without the proper education of the poeple in the program CHILDRENSAIDWEEK The week Oct 17 to 24 has been designated as hildrens Aid Week throughout the pro Vince The Simcoe ounty Childrens Aid Society will mark the week by distributing 8000 church calendars telling people of its aim to help families It will also seek publicity for various aspects of its operation AT AN OPEN HOUSE to show the public the new secondary plan for Angus Essa township planning board chairman Earle Williams right discusses map details with Jerry Jorden planner with Ainley and Associates Ltd Residents have until Oct to give practice is held each Thursday evening ongratulations to all who took part in the Cookstown fall fair and won few prizes Winners for the Thornton area included Illcanor Matlby Ann Spencer June and main feature of the trip was visit with lsobels brother Fred Smith and his wife at Lancing England They visited London Wales and Scotland Hartley Barlow visited his sister Irene Barlow and Fran cis Wicklum on Sept 16 Mrs Mary Clegg returned to her home at King City on Sept 14 after spending the summer months with her daughter Lena Ste henson and husband Cliffan Norma Lund Norma Lund is on
