the Barrie filter centre received call from the surveillance network in connection with two student pilots who were in distress due to their fuel supply running out quickly in the Osh awa area which comes under the jurisdiction of the Barrie filter centre Within very short space of time the centre contacted its lchief observer who is located at the Oshawa Airport This airport does not have lights and as it was night time and the student pilots did not have the experience to land in the dark An immediate call was put through to local ob Iscrvers in Oshawa and they dr0ve Ito the airport placed their cars around the runway and switched on their lights to make flare path enabling the two pilots to land safely isolated incidents where the Ground Observer Corps has alrea dy played an important role in sav ing airmen and their aircraft In addition to the trial exer cise which will be staged at the filter centre on Saturday specially conducted tours will be operated to let the public inspect the build mg Besides training for wartime role of spotting lowflying un friendly aircraft the GOBC is ful filling necessary part in search and rescue work In addition to putting on dis play at the filter centre here ar rangements have also been made for mockup filtercentre to be operated in the Technical Training School at Camp Borden so that the visitors to the RCAIStation thch can also see the work being done by the Corps At Camp Borden the plotting work will be carried out by air cadets of 102 Squadron Barrie These cadets have now completed one years training in Observer Corps work in
