Bob and Dorris faced prejudice from a few residents and were concerned that it was starting to affect their young daughters. He accepted the position of Recreation Director in Cornwall. Colborne lost a wonderful asset to the community when the Turner family left in 1958.

In 1961 Bob Turner went into hospital for a routine hernia operation, and suffered a heart attack while under anaesthetic. He died at the age of 35. Dorris passed away in 2011. Both are buried in her hometown of Athens.

The 1950s generation of Colborne youth will never forget Bob and Dorris Turner. At Colborne's 150th anniversary in 2009, Dorris and her two daughters kindly made the trip back to Colborne. Seeing them again was one of the highlights of that day for many.

Postscript: After Bob Turner's death, Cornwall named the local arena in his honour as the Bob Turner Memorial Centre. This arena was recently torn down and replaced with a new structure. A brief history of his contribution is located inside the new arena.
