MRS. WILLIAM BURNS
Mrs. William Burns died at the old farm home near Rockwood after a two months' illness, on Wednesday December 10, at the age of 56 years. Mrs. Burns was Ellen Dickieson, daughter of the late Alex. Dickieson, who was one of the pioneer farmers on the fourth line of Eramosa. Her mother died when she was a babe. She was adopted by her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Dickieson, Sr., with whom she lived until her marriage to Mr. Burns nearly 24 years ago. The two retired from the farm about two years ago and removed to Rockwood, the farm being sold to Mr. Burns' son-in-law, George Bayne. When Mrs. Burns was taken ill she went to the old farm home, where she was most tenderly tended by her stepdaughter. Deceased was of a quiet and retiring disposition, much devoted to all the duties of a true homekeeper. She was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, for she was a warm-hearted obliging, true and trusted friend and neighbor. Her affectionate and unselfish nature endeared herself to her two step daughters, who were indeed to her as her own children. One child, who died in infancy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Burns. Her husband, two step daughters, Mrs. Watson, Eden Mills and Mrs. George Bayne, on the old home farm, and a brother, Thomas, who lives in Manitoba, but who is now in Ontario, survive her. These have the sympathy of the whole community. The funeral to Everton Cemetery on Saturday was well attended. The family pastor, Rev. John Little, Presbyterian minister, Rockwood, officiated. The pall bearers were Thomas Dickieson, Alex. Ferguson, Thomas Clark, Thomas Forsyth, Leonard McDougal and Robert Paterson. - Featured Link
