reeve pickering township 3 years municipal experience as councillor jj be sure to vote election day dec 6th j polls open from 10 am to s pm to the electors i o pickering township in pickering twp election on monday dec 6 1954 i am seeking reelection as your reeve i respectfully ask your support because of my long public service to pickering twp and its people i and my record are well known to our longtime residents and they have demonstrated their trust in me by repeatedly electing me to office to those newcomers whom i have not yet had the opportunity of meeting may i say briefly that i was born in this township grew up in this township have my home and business in this township and because i believe in the great future of this township i intend to remain here like my father before me i have always taken a keen interest in municipal affairs but have not confined myself to municipal affairs only during the first world war i found time to serve my king and country in addition i have taken an active part in community projects serving as president and director of many organizations not only in this township but outside its borders last year i was appointed director of the mayors and reeves association of the province of ont never before in the history of pickering twp has any reeve been subjected to experiences such as i have had to go through in order to uphold the good name the dignity and the honor of my office and it is because i have been urgently pressed by numerous responsibe citizens to run for the office of reeve that i again offer myself for reelection i have been firmly convinced that it is my duty to do my utmost to ensure that the business affairs of this great township do not fall into inexper ienced and unproven hands during my term of office i have seen this township develop and grow to an assessment of nearly 10 million dollars through having safe sound and progressive administration it will con tinue to prosper if men are elected who have proven that they are interested in the township rather than in personal gain it is my firm and honest conviction that a candidate for the reeveship should serve an apprenticeship as a councillor first in order that he might gain the knowledge and experience essential to the efficient administration of our township affairs he should prove that he is worthy of the high office of reeve pickering township is destined for tremendous ex pansion and development within the next few years the planning of that expansion has already been done it is highly important that only men who have proven them selves trustworthy should be entrusted with the admin istration of these great developments those who have known me longest and known me best know that no one can influence me against my better judgment that is assurance that your interest and the townships best interest shall be protected first and always while i am reeve i pay over 820 a year in township taxes so you will realize that you and i have something in common that your interests are my interests and that the econo mical management of township business is as important to me as to you i appreciate the loyal support given to me in the past and solicit your vote for reeve on december 6 1954 if elected i shall continue to serve you honestly steadily and energetically look well to your ballot in regards to candidates warding and water respectfully yours geo t todd beeve pickering township dear fellow voter the township council has set dec 6th as the day when the citizens of piokerlns town ship will ro to the polls to elect the members of the coun cil who will govern and control the township for the year 1955 first let me urge you to go to the polls and vote for the candidate of your choice let me impress upon your mind that as ratepayeres each and every one is confronted with a very serious husiness on election day those elected to council by the voters on that day will be the people who will have control over what will and will not be done in the township during the coming year they will have the handling of the money of the township and he respons ible for roads schools police protection and the general de velopment of the township therefore it is imperative that we should study well the pros and cons of all candidates and make a wtee decision before marking our ballots let me say that in running for council i have the interest of the whole township at heart having been a resident of scar borough for fifteen years i am conversant with the problems which confront the residents of a builtup area at present we are farming 200 acres so feel i am qualified to see things from the viewpoint of a farmer should you see fit to vote for me on dec 6th and i hope you will i shall endeavour to pro mote better road conditions where needed throughout the township with a minimum rate of taxation i am in favour of industry and water in the town ship and believe it should be encouraged but not at the ex pense of heavy taxation to the ratepayers for water mains to serve only a limited number of residents i teel that industry should help pay the cost of water in the township and in this way water will be available to residents at a reasonable rate i believe we should have ade quate police protection and if elected shall do my utmost to promote it in my opinion every taxpayer should receive the full value of one hundred cents for each dol lar of taxation imposed upon him and that each and every citizen should receive fair and just treatment in all matters i believe that many of the roads in our township are in lifted of immediate attention and if elected pledge myself to do everything in my power to right this situation i feel that any organization or government is the better for having a woman among its mem bers as the majority of women are more careful spenders than men and usually get better value for their dollars your vote on dec 6th would be very much appreciated and if elected you in turn as resi dents of pickering township will receive my sincere and ut most efforts in sorving you to the best of my ability at all times for further information i invite you to call pickering 370w3 may i take this opportunity to thank you in anticipation of your support in the forthcoming olection yours faithfully jean l mcpherson ft i vuililjuaii ft j ii vote kl cliff dick deputy reeve of
