town of brookstn always ha n entry battling for sports recognition last winter they had three fine hockey club two of them won championships and the other reached the flna this summer a wellorganized ir aoftbah club captured the pwsv junior b cnampionship by defeating burlington in a best of three playoff series their mna noftball tam known as stevenson motor has estab lished a fine reputation in oasa circles it boasts one of the finest tiriers in the business in nip hooker of stouffville in lacrosse the brooklm dodgers have reached the finals with bradford and the bantam acrwe club is currently in playoff competition against ixng branch so word has been received of lat how these teams ar making out although the dodgers were leading bradford two games 10 none ia week in 1951 they were intermediate c finalists and in 1952 took th c championship of ontario at year they were eliminated in the finals by georgetown in the b csan competition we have often wondered how a village of this size can produce so many topnotch teams certainly it must have many spcrtsminded citizens who are interested in producing teams and athletes of championship calibre best of mtk bob this week stouffville residents extend their ben wishes to bob hassard a- he embarks on another season in professional hockey bast winter local hockey fans were keenly interested in his activity with the toronto maple leafs and tv viewers were able to see him in action from a living room box seat this season however bob will be regaled in the red white and black of tht chicago black hawks and hu saturday night appearances will not be as frequent as was the case last winter he should however fit in well with this revamped club which has added a number of new faces to the lineup in an effort to strengthen the squad bob joined the black hawk force on wednesday and will commence a rugged training session shortly after his arrival the local baseball and hockey star has always been a favorite with toronto fans and he will no doubt receive e rabid welcome from the queen city spectators as ted kennedy stated when h appeared at the stouffville lions club banquet last spring bobs move is torontos loss and chicagos gain majority of protests are unwarranted last week we witnessed two cases where losing clubs hive issued protests and after a considerable amount of expense to all concerned both were tossed out the window wellington pro- tetted the series with stouffville cardinals but the pleas for another chance were flatly turned down sunderland issued a protest against the stouffville red sox and it also was rejected by a three man executive it is hard to imagine a olub protesting an umpires call in a game that ended with a score of 152 are these teams just hard losers or do they really expect to receive tome consideration when the beef is brought up at a special hearing in the case of wellington the management had to post a iso fee which was lost when the protest fell through stouff ville had to put up a similar amount hut it was returned a team that lodges a protest should realize the trouble it is putting the board and the opposing club to in order that the question might be cleared up in the juvenile hearing it was necessary for four men to travel some seventy miles to hamilton their time and trouble should he worth money in the intermediate protest stouffville had to send both its manager and official umpire to the meeting representatives from other clubs were also asked to attend it would appear that in both hockey and baseball the first thought that enters a losing clubs mind is is there anything we can protest as long as the team wins everything is fine and dandy good hockey group shaping up after numerous meetings and proposals it would appear that stouffville hockey fans are in for a season of good hockey enter tainment following last seasons grouping your reporter was somewhat disgusted with the setup mainly duo to the lack of competition and goodnatured community rivalry for a time it appeared that local hockey enthusiasts were in for the flame type of organization but during the last few days more light has shone on the subject the oha has agreed to allow orillia to join the metro group and with newmarket and lyndhurst motors in the league it is assured of four good contending clubs the management of ravina flyers and aurora lumbermen have stated that they intend to add considerable strength to their respective lineups a seven team group has been formed in the eastern senior circuit clinton new york rrockvllle and cornwall have been added this means that oshawa truckmen will have to travel close to 300 mllese in order to play a game with the club from across the border no doubt the competition will be good but will the clubs pocket book be able to stand the strain in the intermediate ranks a group is also shaping up markham alliston and whitby have notified the oha of their intentions to
