extends 1 miles for the juniors and miles for the senior stalwarts the winner in each class is presented with a trophy as a symbol of his prowess if such a race could be organized here it would no doubt provide much enjoyment as well as good exercise a set course would have to be laid out and students would have to slick strictly to the rules it may be of some intereset to note tbat in such of warkworth near hastings ont to attend the lions club young canada night in the stouffvule arena bill has always been actively interested in sports and while living in this district he played with hockey teams in both stouffville and newmarket as well as lending a hand at coaching local minor hockey teams just previous to moving to warkworth bill took on the position of hockey referee and this winter he has been kept busy by the omha his latest success was the handling of the juvenile a finals between kingston and st catharines played in the kingston arena he also coached a juvenile team at hastings and played in the trent valley hockey league in his spare time he was engaged at farming when bill embarked for the eastern districts mr jim austin omha executive member informed messrs doug patterson and albert watkins also memberes of the minor hockey executive in peterboro and stirling that bill would be available for refereeing duties in that district since that time he has been actively engaged in hockey promotion to br ax annum event since stoultvillws first young canada night was such a success it is hoped that it will become an annual event in the hockey life of this district the program was arranged mainly through the work of the stouffville lions sports com mittee chairman ted edwards with the cooperation of the arena manager telf uennie the young hockey players them selves played an active part in promoting the successful evening by selling over 800 admission tickets to their parents and friends from friendly comments in the arena and on the streets it would appear that even the parents themselves were surprised that their johnny jimmy or billy had acquired so much ability in such a short time the ability to play hockey is only one thing acquired in a wellorganized peewee league the friendly rivalry which prevails between the players teaches the boys good sportsmanship something that will benefit them for the remainder of their lives it teaches the boys to appreciate the time and money spent by the lions club on them in providing free ice and sweaters for over twenty weeks of the year the health giving attributes of the sport cannot be measured
