for mr glenn bolender who is ill with rheumatic fever mr and mrs john bmpring- ham mr and mrs percy ben nett had dinner wednesday evening of last week with mr and mrs mac ferguson of aurora the occasion being mr and mrs fergusons 39th wed ding anniversary miss greta luffers of osh- awa spent the weekend with mr and mrs p willows mr and mrs percy bennett had sunday evening dinner at the home of mr and mrs m johnson of headford mr and mrs walter ridley and family of whitby spent sunday with mr and mrs p w williows there were 21 tables of euchre at the community hall on tuesday night prize win ners were ladies mrs bill imgh miss mabel sanderson mrs marcus jarvis gents roy harrison earl empringham jack rumney door prizes were won by marion nichols and n buchanan the next euchre is to be mar 30 mrs harvey collard held a luncheon at her home last wednesday with a large at tendance the dining table was decorated with spring flowers assisting mrs collard were mrs a stephenson and mrs s defoe pouring tea were mrs h mccague presi dent of the wms and miss mabel sanderson president of the wa proceeds from this luncheon were for the remod elling of the kitchen in the sunday school room mr gordon mortsons sun day school clas played hoc key with the jefferson public- school on friday night at unionville jefferson won 12 the regular monthly meet ing of the wms was held on wednesday afternoon at the home of mrs harvey collard the worship service was in charge of mrs r glover mrs s boynton read the scripture prayers were given by mrs westbrook mrs mcroberts and mrs sandle the study book was taken by mrs west- brook and mrs glover a get well card was signed by all present to be sent to mrs r boynton a social half hour followed the march meeting of the wa held on wednesday night at the home of mrs allan orr with mrs williams in the chair mrs allan orr sang a solo mr john snider gave a very interesting account of the trip he and mrs snider enjoyed through the states to florida the sr wi held a booth t mr walter smiths sale last week the proceeds were quite handsome on sunday march 28 at 230 the guest speaker at the church will be rev floyd honey of the m m dept of for rural boys and girls is a definite and im portant part of agricultural extension programmes and may be defined as a voluntary educational movement design ed to provide through organ ized groups a practical train ing in agriculture and home economics and at the same time to develop the individual abilities of the members club work is a supplementary train ing not a substitute for a formal education learning to do by doing is a basic principle of 4h club work and its most important feature is that the members undertake practical farm or home projects a sense of re sponsibility a stimulation of interest and a desire for more information regarding better husbandry practices are con crete results of this training the keeping of records of pro duction costs develops an ap preciation of farm and home management problems achiev ement days or club shows af ford the members an oppor tunity to compare the results of their work with those of others and to demonstrate their accomplishments to the public judging and other forms of competition help to develop selfreliance good sportsmanship and the powers of observation and judgment what better training could we have for the future farm ers of this county whv not let your son and your daughter take advantage of this oppor tunity last year in ontario county 350 bovs and girls took part in 4h club projects these pro jects included beef dairy grain corn potato tractor maintenance forestry clubs girls garden and homemak ing clubs in addition 2 jun ior dairy and beef calf clubs for the under 12vearolds at tracted 13 members all those interested in taking part in 4- h club work should forward their name and address to the ontario department of agri culture uxbridge as soon as possible 1 wish to thank all who offer ed their help on the evening of march isth when our barn burned we are grateful to the fire brigades from stouffville aurora and richmond hill for standing by till danger to the house and garage was passed a special thank you to wilbur watt who assisted in rescuing several implements and re mained most of the night mrs eva steckley and family we would like to thank all our friends and neighbours wallet against carl lennox of stouffville were dis missed by magistrate hollin- rake in police court in new market last week chester saw yer drew the wrath of the court when he testified that he had given lennox permissic- to use his car and that the wallet theft was only a mixup in shirts the astounded crown attorn ey asked why he had not told the officers this before this young man has been remanded three times and spent one week in jail because of these charges why did you not do something about it 1 did not know what to do replied sawyer all you had to do was tell the police officer
