ing you we remain yours sincerely dorothy and john maye lots of people would do less worrying if it were as hard to borrow money as it is to pay it back uxbridge township reeve and deputy in by acclamation contiuued from front page education will see fit to change back to the old system of separate boards reeve catherwood spoke briefly on municipal and coun ty affairs pertaining to ux bridge township he told his listeners that the municipality was in sound financial stand ing with no outstanding deben ture debts in the township the reeve spoke of the new 10000 bridge constructed at sandy hook which it was ex pected would be taken over by the county some two miles on the 5th concession north of claremont will be resurfaced by the county with work to commence immediately dep reeve stewart ball al so dwelt mainly on county work he pointed out some of the expenditures over which the members had no control the construction of fairview lodge 65000 for childrens aid 23000 for welfare pur poses and 13000 for the clerk- treasurers dept and staff dep reeve ball noted that the county rate had risen 2 mills during the past year mainly due to the large building pro gram being carried out he sta ted that such construction was forced on the county and built to government specifications mr john ball the senior member on council discussed some of the main items that were mainly responsible for the increase in the township tax rate marked increases were noted in relief police pro tection road department pub lic and high school and the county levy fire costs were down somewhat over the pre vious year clarence bunker councillor for the past two years touched on some of the improvements that had been made in the township new sidewalks had been completed at goodwood numerous hills had been cut down and a new bridge was constructed at sandy hook councillor bunker stated how ever that many roads were in a toad condition mainly due to the lack of proper equipment councillor earl dowswell mentioned the police costs as one item he believed could be lessened ihe stated that the mileage expenses appeared un usually high and unnecessary he felt that a fire agreement should be made with the stouffville brigade in order to satisfy both parties mr dow swell pointed out that the goodwood park fence had been painted and the grass cut he also stated that consi derable brush had been cut throughout the township the public school area board system was thoroughly discussed and aired at the meeting all the members el- dred catherwood win hew lett waller beach earl tin- dall and john kidd expressed their views on the subject with the exception of mr kidd all requested the rate payers to give the system a fair chance to prove its worth both mr catherwood and mr hewlett felt that a vote taken on the spur of the mo ment would not give a satis factory decision mr hewlett pointed out that although pub lic school expenses had increa sed during the past three years that increase was con siderably lower than any oth er public service paid for by the ratepayers in answering the charge of negligence mr hewlett stated that a number of schools had only a small a- mount of money spent on them in the past three years mainly because thev were in good condition when the area board was formed mr cath erwood explained that a new ehotol built in a section would nt burden the taxpayer when government grants were re ceived and the debenture spread over a ten year period the board felt that many did nt understand the issue and therefore didnt realize what they were voting for uxbridge township electors vote robert l nesbitt councillor 1954 monday december 7th polls open from 9 am to 5 pm nnn township of uxbridge your support and influence
