william grove 50 was rush ed to toronto western hospital saturday with head injuries police i grove who was shaken said at the hospital where her tou police ho signa before i he turned the truck police said was i driven by charles a hill 19 of police said the old model truck driven by mr grove was turning into the family home on the eighth concession of markham at dick sons hill when the did not see groves sig nal the impact sent the truck hurling into a guard rail complete ly demolishing it the truck driver was not injured two die in crash with cpr flyer at locust hill crossing a proposed fishing trip ended in tragedy at 705 am tuesday when a car with two youths crashed into the side of an ottawatoronto cpr flyer at locust hill cecil watt lj 61 virginia ave toronto was thrown clear and died instantly graham carberry 21 of rjril malton believed to have been the driver of the car was trapped in the wreckage and the train crew worked feverishly to free him despite their efforts he died enroute to toronto general hospital the accident occurred at a level crossing on xo 7 highway in the centre of this small village only stones throw from a general store two heavy skid request from stouftville for financial assistance in connection with the municipal 75th annivers ary celebration there was granted and s50 extended car car overturns on slippery road on friday afternoon driven by mrs archie goldsmith of oshawa skidded out of control on the sth concession of markham plunged into the deep ditch turned completely over and landed up right on its wheels the car was proceeding north but ended up on the side of the ditch facing south the driver received a nasty cut on her forehead apparently caused by her glasses a front seat passenger mrs stanley pollard also from oshawa was badly shaken up the roof of the auto was badly caved in and it is a mystery liow the occupants escaped more serious injury roth were rushed by dr f j button to the brierbush hos pital for treatment constable george clayton of the markham twp force investigated claremont pastor is bereaved suddenly on sunday july 20th mrs f davison who had only recently journeyed from her home in staffordshire england to visit some of her family passed away in newmarket hospital the de ceased left the old country on may 22nd and since her arrival in canada has been renewing old acquaintances came to a conclusion on friday nisht when the accomp- lisiments of the children were put or display before the many parent and friends in atten dance the listeners at the closing exercises were thrilled with the beautiful musical selections rendered by the pupils under the direction of mrs ken wpgg and mrs frank mulr an average atten dance of v was recorded for the two week seson and be they will visit for some weeks with their daughter we are sorry to report that miss ada barkey is not enjoying her usual good health markham reeve forced to adjourn council meeting and call police to clear room when councillor chas hooper attempted to filibuster the regular meeting of markham township council on monday evening reeve timbers called for an adjournment to restore order and threatened to call in the police to clear the coun cil chambers of ratepayers who continued to interrupt the proceed ings the meeting resumed later with councillor hooper and deputyreeve james absenting themselves the flareup arose when coun cillor lemasurier requested a check on the budget in order to see what funds were available he stated that he had asked for the report three weeks in succession out without success councillor hooper stated that there wasnt enough help in the office to have such a report at hand deputyreeve james charged councillor lemasurier with creat ing a scene at the last meeting and preventing the report being read councillor lennie stated that he favored having a progress report from the various departments you cant do it with the staff weve got youve got to have another man asserted councillor hooper at this point the meeting resolv ed into a heated debate with con tinual interruptions c from rate payers on the advisability of engaging a treasurer and the muchdisputed auditors report a resolution instructing the audi tor to set up the budget in a way in which council could have a monthly report from the treasurer as to what funds had been spent and what funds were available for expenditure was lost councillors lemasurier and lennie supported the motion with several resolutions in the reeves hands calling for reports from the police roads and other departments councillor hooper opened up a verbal barrage against councillor lemasurier and the con duct of this years council which eventually ended in the meeting being adjourned he stated that councillor lemasurier had been sabatoging council all year and had not told the truth to council he claimed that a deputation had recently visited his home with a view to having councillor lemas urier unseated if possible overturned gravel crusher blocks j highway no 7 i on friday afternoon a huge i tractor trailer transporting a 46 ton crusher to a gravel pit in ux- bridge township met with trouble on xo 7 highway near the third concession of markham an axle ion the crusher snapped and the i giant machine toppled off its plat form to the roadside blocking traltic for a considerable distance until police arrived to clear up the i situation hardly had the crusher been righted when the blocks gave i way under the weight and the difficult job had to be started over again with the aid of two large dereks the steel structure was fin ally cleared from the road and traffic returned to normal special issue of tribune next week next week the stouftville tri bune will publish one of its largest editions this year it will combine the annual musselmans i ake edi tion with special historical features in conjunction with the 75th anniversary celebration advertisers and correspondents of visitors are expect ed here over the weekend and many will be returning to town for possibly the first time since their early years residents are proud of their town and want these visitors to be
