scheduled contest in the oha senior league will be on tuesday jan 20th when mid land flyers will return for the third meeting with the clippers the athletic club is staging the first big winter ice carnival of the district in the stouffville arena on wednesday feb 13 according to the program that is being planned there are to be fancy costumes figure skaters old time tiddlers a sparkling band mocassin dancing and lucky draws there is to be public skating during a portion of the evening when the band will provide the music advised to ttend umpires ioring doolittle war- last week his application bill mccowans baseball school at daytona beach florida had been accepted mcgowan who is the senior umpire of the major leagues conducts the most widely known umpires school in the us went down to defeat at the hands of their senior b rivals orillia terriers on saturday night in one of the hardest fought battles to be waged this season a good crowd of screaming orillia fans were given full value for their money as the two clubs packed everything into the exciting three periods of hockey and provided a ten minute overtime session as well in order to gain a winner it was one of those seesaw battles in which either club could have won hand ily in regular time it was the first win of the season for the orillia quad on their home ice and pro vided the fans with all the thrills that one could ever hope to see smooth stickhandling hard body- checks brilliant goaltending wrestling and boxing all had their part in the closely contested game the clippers held a 32 lead at the end of the first period and 53 at the end of the second jiut orillia forged back in tile third and final frame with three goals to jump into the drivers seat for the first time in the game ronnie bell sank the equalizer late in the final twenty minutes that forced both teams into the ten minute over time session long of orillia zoomed in on the clipper cage after only twentythree seconds had licked by to notch what proved to be the winner bert baker put the clippers one up early in the first period with a hard blueline drive don bowen tied the score midway through the opening twenty minutes from richardson but hal gibson forged back with an unassisted tally to give the locals the lead for the second time jack rumney flipped the rubber over clarke in the orillia cage who was sprawled on the ice to lengthen the clipper lead but ab bowen put his club right back in the running late in the period from dyke and brother don bowen ab bowen raced in alone on the clipper cage after a little more than a minute had passed in the second stanza as he caught the stouffville defence flai fooled giving goalie ratough no chance whatever to make the save back and forth from one end to another the battle raged as both clubs strived to take that all important lead ronnie bell carried the puck into the orillia end and blasted a hard drive at goalie clarke b bangay picked up the rebound and netted clippers serving a two minute penalty kelly newcomer to the orillia squad put his club back in the running once more and five minutes later with ilerbie rose sitting out a minor penalty in the cooler long tallied from payne the entire orillia club seemed to catch fire suddenly and tore into the attack with more fight than they had shown on any previous occasion at 819 richardson brought the crowd
