deliver the message the wa of the united church held a supper on the lawn of mr roy brignall last thursday with miss rollings group in charge ice cream instead of strawberries was served proceeds amounted to nearly 45 a social evening of the church members and goodfellowship class took place on the lawn of mr and mrs w evans last wednesday evening an address of apprecia tion for the past ten years of ser vice as pastor of the united church and best wishes for suc cess on the new appointment to cannington was read by the chair man of the board of stewards mr melvin johnson and the presenta tion of an upholstered occasional chair made by treasurer mrs e baker the goodfellowship class secretary mrs w hill also read a friendship card and mr boniface president of the class presented an electric kettle and miss joan middleton of the junior group pre sented a china cup and saucer to mrs kennedy both rev and mrs kennedy replied expressing appreciation of the response of the congregation assuring them of an ever warm place in their affection for the people of claremont dur ing the lunch hour an autograph album was passed around in which members inscribed their senti ments for future reading in can- nington the ladies aid society of st andrews presbyterian church pickering are holding a garden tea at the hermitage the home of mr and mrs e l ruddy picker ing on september year with mrs f cassie as the president the meeting was opened by singing o canada followed toy the institute ode and installa tion of officers conducted by mrs b harvey money was given mrs matthews for the committee to buy books for prizes for school child ren mrs m annis will decide the time for the presentation a dona tion was voted to be given to the ball team to help defray expenses for work done on ball field an evening picnic is to be arranged for the july meeting a short course arrangement of living room is to be held in brougham if possible an excellent report of the district annual ceijebkates 80th birthday on thursday june 23 mrs charlie lee of uxbridge who with her husband is so well known throughout uxbridge township reached her soth birthday the event was celebrated on sunday with a rather large house party at the le home among those present were mr and mrs clifford lee of siloam mr and mrs garnet lee of uxbridge mr and mrs- edgar mcnelly uxbridge mr and mrs george lee bobcaygeon mr and mrs floyd clark and son neil ashworth lloyd lee and daughter gloria jean also mrs bryan martin betty ann and gary miss cleo lee miss betty lee and friend all of bobcaygeon audley the late mrs parkin of kinsale who passed away last week was in her early life a resident of this vicinity and attended the school here when f m chapman was teaching will be remembered as a good student and was a happy cheerful and clever scholar her parents lived on a farm on the fifth concession we have enjoyed some rains here during the past week which have helped the farmers out in their crops and pastures miss muriel westney of st josephs hospital toronto with a friend spent sunday under the parental roof mrs t annan who was taken to hospital last week at oshawa is reported to be some improved and her many friends hope for her complete recovery at an early date john and mrs stork of pickering were callerswith relatives here on sunday last some of our young people enjoyed a trip last week to dal- housie and report no seasickness the long vacation period has begun for the school children it will seem a far stretch to septem ber but it will go too fast for all of us the community club met at the home of arthur and mrs oconnor on the third line last week and a the new delightfully cool rio theatre uxbridge the only theatre in the district with refrigerated air committee reported having sent remembrances to the sick and ailing the loss of the prize in the canadian countryman contest was softened by the fact that there are many other similar clubs at work in ontario and doing good work the annual picnic at lynbrook park was set for the evening of july 14th when a community supper will be set at 630 to be followed by games and a ball game all the people in the district are invited to come cars with six people are admitted for a quarter a good committee was named to attend to the details after a delightful luncheon ken pratt moved a vote of thanks to the
