next the call was made at a congre gational meeting held last sunday morning it was unanimously ex tended in the old days of method ism uxbridge was regarded as the top church in the district and the district chairman always resid ed there the big edifice in uxbridge built in 1sss by the late peter addison is one of the finest united churches outside of the larger cities and seats 1800 people it is the home of the widely known business mens bible class founded by its present leader mr t g gold over thirty years ago a successor has not yet been found to replace mr atkinson in stouffville who this euchre brought to a close the course of the veterans activities for the season of 194041 for ten years they have held a series of euchres each fall and winter to provide funds to be used for the benefit of the veterans families each year at the christmas season a fine entertain ment was arranged with pictures etc and a large tree containing gifts for each and everyone of the children was provided causing much enjoy ment every summer a picnic and field day is held with games and races for everybody during the season just closed the veterans have put forth every effort to help with- patriotic work and the sum of 44010 was realised which was spent as follows welfare assistance coal clothing etc red cross markham twp branch war savings stamps british war victims fund one war bond
