close proximity to a run ning creek of course have something to fal back on even though it entails a gnat deal of extra work to draw wat er or drive the stock to a water ing place around ballantrae if there is no change soon farmers may have to travel a mile or two to draw water from the lake indeed this is being done now by a few and for use on the ballantrae skating rink for which hundreds of gallons have been transported prospects are there will be no spring freshet as so far we have scarcely any snow of course there are stiil six weeks more before the first of march and anything can happen in the meantime those short of water hope for a good rain i bill yakes young hound valued as a good hunting dog was run down by a motorist a few days ago and was instant ly killed according to the own er the young hound remained right in the centre of the road but the motor car came right on without making any attempt to stop a birthday cake with sixty- nine candles adorned the centre of mr mrs robert closson and mr and mrs p lehman mrs dan cook met with a rather serious accident one day last week while walking along main street near shaws store some child had left a low wagon on the sidewalk which mrs cook did not see and it caused her to fall in addition to tear ing the ligaments of her right hand her glasses were smashed so that they were of no more use everybody who buys glass es knows how costly they are hence all in all the incident was most unfortunate it was sever al days before mrs cook was able to be about after the severe shakeup at this time it might be proper to point out that children should be cautioned about leaving their toys on the streets where they are liable to be an obstruction to passersby aurora made no mistake in carrying out their threat to have revenge on stouffville for sending them down to their lone season defeat and handed the locals a 61 drubbing on aurora ice last friday night in a junior oha fixture play was very even during the first twenty minutes but hear ing the close stouffville tended to be a bit lax in covering up around their net and opened the way for mccomb of the purple and white to open the scoring this one goal ended the period in the second period the yonge streeters made merry to the tune of four goals two of which were rather unearned stouff ville came back strong in the last round when grossmith and sharland combined to score the lone stouffville tally aurora al so notched another in the final period on a breakaway to make the final score aurora 6 stouff ville 1 curling schedule below we give a list of the home of mrs robert leslie church street on thurs day afternoon january 19th at 3 pm members and friends will please accept this intimation one of our councilmen mr ira rusnell was on a business trip to montreal last week where he visited the headquarters of the rawleigh co by whom he is employed many of us have visited the royal city yet each ones experiences in the place are different and interesting few will have been more obser vant than councillor rusnell for here is what he noted about his holiday i arrived by train in montreal at 7 oclock in the morning and spent the forenoon seeing through the factory of the rawleigh co which takes in six floors equipped with all the latest machinery at noon hour when i realized the inner man must be satisfied i looked around for an eating place while at my lunch i encountered a man who is both a school teacher and a sunday school superintendent with some 800 scholars and he proved to be a real pal to me he made it possible for me to see some of the wonderful sights in montreal that is why i feel like writing and telling of a few of them montreal is surely a great city with a milion and half popula tion it is an island and in the centre of the city is a natural mountain park which rises 763 feet above the city on several places away up the mountain there are built places they call lookouts with arrows pointing in different directions and tell ing what each is and by going from one to the other you get a real panoramic view of the 26 miles of montreal around the mountain some of the main things are the lachine rapids on the st lawrence river the laurentian mountains the harbor bridge for american trains to come over and the victoria jubilee bridge we left the lookout place by motor car for another high point and after traveling about two miles we had to leave the car and walk because cars are not allowed to go nearer than about a mile and a half from the highest point you may get a horse drawn vehicle anytime of the year to go up and in the summer street cars run near the top up here is built a mountain chalet a magnificent building costing many thousands of dollars and a little farther on a cross is erect ed about 150 feet high from the ground it is lighted up at night and can be seen at 35 miles distance still at another point about two miles away is st josephs shrine wheie thousands of people from all over usa and canada come cripped but were healed and left their canes crutches wheel chairs and casts for the body as souvenirs and can be seen anytime in a fine stone building which will seat 3500 people after seeing these wonderful scenes the time came when e had to bid adieu to this newly found friend to catch my train back to toronto counter books merchants we are agents
