fetches of the hoover family have many times been written but the other day our henry hoover just west of stouffville on the 0th concession of markham cime across a valuable print of the hoover ori gin which had been secured by his father and more or less was un obtainable it is revealed in a letter written to the local press 36 years ago by daniel b hoover and reads as follows a history of the original hoover and some of his descendants accord ing to the information which the un dersigned gathered from a friend in lititz lancaster co pa by a let ter dated lititz feb 2sth 1900 the statement given was as fol lows friendly and sincere greetings to you as a stranger but hope to bo joined in one true spirit through god the father and our lord and saviour jesus christ also the true guidance of his divine spirit which leadeth into all truth during our earthly pilgrimage yes through all trials which we have to bear so when done with us on earth we may all hear the welcome plaudit come ye faithful servants inherit this bright home with all those who have washed their robes white in the blood of the lamb in the midst of the throne o may god in mercy grant all this is my prayer amen dear friend yours dated janu ary 31st 1900 most welcome letter to hand inquiring as to the name of the original hoover huber in ger man and also what part of europe they came from and also what re ligious persuasion they belonged to i will now try to answer as best i can the first hubers name we can find was hans ulrich huber who came from bavaria germany but when he landed in america there is no date to be found but from the year 1712 until 1734 a great num ber of immigrants crossed the sea both from germany and switzerland all belonging to the mennonite church and it is supposed that old hans ulrich huber was one of the parties which crossed the sea be tween the dates above mentioned the next reliable information is that in the year 1745 richard and thomas penn granted a patent deed for 90 acres of land in lancaster co pa near lititz to hans ulrich hu ber and shortly afterwards richard and thomas penn gave a deed for 290 acres of land in said district to hans ulrich huber hans ulrich huber had two sons namely abraham and christian christian died single abraham married in the year 17g2 having sons and daughters one sons name was abraham and the other ones name was samuel who was the grandfather of john h hess who is giving this information but i did not know that the abraham huber sr had any more sons than the two mentioned but it seems by tracing it up it turns out that he bad the daughters names of abraham hub er sr were anna magdalena far- onica mary catharine elisabeth and barbara the foregoing is the substance of the sketch given by my friend john h hess of lititz lancaster co pa the following is given by myself as true and honest as i possibly can first i claim that the hoovers hubers in canada are the de scendants of the original hans ulrich huber but i can only faint ly prove it there were three old hoovers who moved to canada namely john martin and daniel i claim that those three were also sons of abraham huber sr and the said john hoover sr was my grand father ho left lancaster county and moved to dauphin co where he carried on the weaving business until he sold out iu the year 1811 he moved to canada then a wilderness and settled in markham township york county on lots number 34 and 35 fronting the third concession he had four sons martin john daniel who was my father and christian he had also two daughters elisa beth and christina all had sons and daughters with the exception that the last mentioued had only one daughter john hoover sr died at an old ago and was buried at the heisey hill cemetery in markham township york co the aforesaid old martin and dan iel hoover sr also left lancaster co in tlteir young days and settled in washington co maryland state and carried on a flour milling busi ness until they sold out to move to canada being in the early years of 1s00 martin hoover sr bought a 200 acre farm being lot 26 in the 7th concession of markham had two sons christian and john and three daughters polly susannah and esther all had sons and daughters later on he sold out and moved with part of his family to indiana state elkhart county where he died of old age and was buried near goshen daniel hoover sr bought a 200 acre farm in markham township being lot number 25 in the 8 th con cession where he died of old age and was buried on his farm he had four sons samuel christian daniel and john and also two daughters paronica and elizaibeth who all had sons and daughters note the following to prove that the hoovers in canada are descend ed from the original hubers of lan caster county pa i will now state that my father about 55 years ago took a trip to pennsylvania to see his friends and relatives while in lancaster co he met a cousin who was a daughter of one pt the old hubers of said county and who was married to john reesor a minister of the mennonite church and had sons daughters who are second cousins to myself and who were also similarly related to john h hess my friend of lititz lancaster county my father also on the same visit ing trip went to franklin county pa to see his relatives in the neighborhood of chambersburg knowing that he had cousins living there some hoovers dr sencerich and the brandts all originally from lancaster county samuel brandt my fathers first cousin was a son of the old faronica htuber of lan caster co samuel brandt had sons and daughters to whom i myself paid a visit about 2g years ago at the same time also the brandt family made me acquainted with the hoover and dr spencenich families knowing that we were of the same strain of blood now i think the foregoing his tory is sufficient proof for the most sceptical to convince them that the hoovers in canada are the descend ants of the original hans ulrich huber of lititz lancaster county pa from whom there is in exis tence the eighth generation up to april 15th 1903 daniel b hoover obituary a very wise judge the w h shaw store phone 8513 stonffrllto obtaru- store open tuesday thursday and saturday evenings marie forget appeared in court at montreal and maries trouble was that she had not closed her beauty parlor at tho hour provided for by law judge enright dismissed the case claiming it vas impossible that a barber or hairdresser should close up and quit work on the stroke of 7 bells there had to be a certain amount of reason and discretion in enforcing such laws the judge is wise ho is the sort of man who ought to be a judge he has saved much trouble and headed off a great deal of con tusion if a lady were in a beauty parlor and the hour of 7 arrived it might he that one half of her hair would bo straight and the other half as curly as a pigs tail if the lady in charge informed her thats all for today drop around in the morning at 9 and we will proceed there would be trouble perhaps strong words and a certain amount of grief or if a man were in the barber shop with half of his whiskers mow ed off and tho remainder shaggy and at 7 the barber laid away bis tools and said work was through for tho day there would be more trouble perhaps words and blows sweet reason must have sat on the bench with judge enright when he told marie to trot along and attend to her affairs
