s lengthy illness he was in his 67th year it was the second death in the family within a week mrs barkey having been laid to rest the thurs day previous deceased was a well known and highly respected citizen born at green river pickering township and had been a continu ous resident of tilsonburg for 51 years in 1ss9 his father the late david barkey purchased the tilson burg electric light plant and later handed the business over to his two sons frank and william who carried on until the advent of hydro deceased was an accomplish ed musician and organized and directed a brass band at green river at the age of 16 years and when he moved to tilsonburg assisted in the organization of the odd fellows band later the citizens band act ing as leader for over 19 years he was a charter member of the maccabees and also a member of otter lodge no 50 ioof mr i barkey was an adherent of st an drews presbyterian church surviv ing are one sister mrs w a mc- xeilly of brooklyn ont and a bro ther william of tilsonburg two aunts imrs john blair and miss susan barkey and one uncle abram barkey all of markham also many cousins in markham and whitchurch townships the late frank barkeys mother was to gether with the husband a woman of more than average hospitable instinct the mertens home was ever a rendezvous for friends and relatives and her reputation as a housewife was known far and near
