united church last sunday morning on the ques tion of closing off the sunday even ing service for the next four weeks mr g r w thomas sunday school superintendent church caretaker and courier of his majestys royal mail definitely established himself as the lone voter because for the second year in succession g r w stood alone for keeping open house as it were not that everyone present voted to apply the closuro process but when the minister called for those opposed to closing off the evening service the caretaker on whom falls much oi the work stood out in hold relief as a symbol of sabbath as usual he was the sole one to cast his vote for a sunday evening service a few declined to vote at all the chief reason for closing down instead of engaging a supply minister while the regular one is absent on holidays is said to be that the attendance is so small that such action is not warranted either from the financial or spiritual point of view uxbridge came forth with a new twirler in the person of george smith while their old standby bill clark held up the third base posi tion the one man who seemed to get under the new pitchers wool the most was jack pennock who slam med out two singles and a double in four times at bat cook was next in line for the batting honours gett ing single and a double in his four turns scoring was nil until the sixth innings when cook crossed the plate for the first tally and no hits and a walk in the seventh netted two more counters and although ux bridge pressed hard in the final moments the local boys held them to a shutout runs hits eros stouffville 3 7 1 uxbridge 0 2 1 a second successive win over uxbridge was scored on tuesday of this week when the locals defeated them 70 at stouffville once more stouffville were confronted with a new pitcher hut this failed to have any effect as they came through easily with twelve hits jack pen nock did the twirling for stouffville striking out nine men and allowing but four hits lou lehman starred as the local slugger knocking out a triple a double and a single in four turns at bat the local rallies came in the fourth and fifth innings when they scored three runs each time stouffville was forced to do some slight shifting in their lineup in the fourth innings when their third baseman ueg button suffered a twisted ankle while making a safe slide to second runs hits eros stouffville
