mother as was his custom martin hutchinson was shocked to find hor form lying still ed in death evidently she had pass ed peacefully away in her sleep as the sou recalled that she appeared to be in the same position as when he left her bedsido the evening be fore and so natural and restful did she look that he was actually with drawing quietly from the room lest ho disturb her slumbers when bis attention was arrested by the pallor j of her hand it was later revealled that sho bad been dead some hours tho late mrs hutchinson was the widow of the late thos hutchinson i who died eight years ago she had been in ill health for some time with heart trouble but with care was thought to be reasonably sure of life for sonic years to come she was g9 years of age and retired in her normal way on sunday evening be fore her death born in richmond township macomb county michigan she was brought to canada when only a babe her mother having died at two years of age she was taken by mr and mrs andy henderson who lived on the neighorn farm at lemonville where she lived until the time of her marriage to tho late mr hutchinson when the couple after living in york and king took up farming at lot 5 concession 7 whit church here she resided until her death on monday the 2gth tho place being worked by her son martin and his wife of recent years mrs hutchinson is survived by a family of three sons namely dr andrew hutchinson professor in the university of b c at vancouver dr harry hutchinson of port arthur dentist and martin on the home place one brother lives at lexing ton mich mrs hutchinson was a beloved mother and her untimely death is a great shock to the family she was baptist in religion and the funeral on wednesday took place from the late home to aurora cemetery for interment rev mr smalley of mount albert conducted the service at the late home and at the grave side mr onto e w durnin ba of tor- has been engaged to act as principal of stouffville coutinuatiou school for the next term starting in september the new principal is on honor graduate of toronto university holding specialist certifi cates in mathematics physics and physical culture he will come here with ten years experience eight of which he obtained in the essex high school as principal mr durnin is now on the occasional staff of the danforth technical school a special meeting of the school board was held on monday morning this week to make an appointment when it was moved by dr ball and seconded by dr freel that the choice go to mr durnin at a salary of 2000 there were 13 applicants for the position although the number suitable for the position was surprisingly small at that at the last regular meeting of the school board held in june the trustees cancelled all contracts with the continuation school teach ers then reengaged the two lady teachers at reduced salaries a subsequent special meeting held last week passed a resolution to advertise for a new male principal with the above results mr durnin the new man is niarried and will move here with his wife and two children both attending the public school conductor harry johns weil known here harrison l johns of toronto i former railway conductor died on sunday after a brief illness in his s3rd year he had been a resident of toronto and district ever since he was eight years of age he had 52 years service with the old grand trunk and the canadian national railways to his credit for 22 years lie was conductor on tho old sutton and jacksons point division and was well known in stouffville he was an anglican a member of sutton lodge af and am and of the order of railway conductors he is survived by his wife four daughters mrs minnie beattie of toronto misses ivy eva and hazel johns at home and two sons s e johns congratulations from their many friends on their splendid success at the toronto conservatory of music examinations held in tor onto last week ten pupils tried the examinations and were all success mary crosier elementary theory amy rogers first class honors elizabeth rogers the death occurred at raglan last week of william kellington aged 64 years retired store keeper of the village the funeral on sunday afternoon took place to the cemetery at good wood from the late home at raglan the late mr kellington is surviv ed by his widow and a family of one son and two daughters also by four sisters one each living in toronto muskoka western canada and by mrs wash paisley of stouffville thos kellington of bloomington is rn only brother prior to purchasing the store business at raglan the de decoration day service on sunday afternoon held in the cemetery a church hill ideal weather smiled in a benignant way upon the beautiful scene with a wealth of flowers everywhere as a token of love for thoso who had been called to the great beyond rev herbert lee of stbuffyillo preached the sermon bringing a message to us that was not only fitting the occasion but one which appealed to the miller last week the helping hands and excelsior classes of our sunday school were guests at the june meeting of tho stouffville baptist mission circle held at tho home of mr and mrs win ratcliff baker hill the regular business was followed by an address given by mrs price a returned missionary from bolivia the ad dress which was divided into four parts place people problems and progress was both interesting and helpful musical selections were rendered by mrs iratcliff mrs j m grove and miss ada barkey the classes join in thanking mrs ratcliff j and the mission circle for the very pleasant afternoon library regulations house to rent with all con veniences and centrally located xeah baker tho publicity agent of the stouff ville public library thought it well to publish some of the rules of the library at the beginning of tho holiday season when so much read ing is done and the time for open ing and closing the same that there may be no disappointment 2 tho library and the read ingroom aro open every day holi days and sundays excepted from 2 pm until 530 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm excepting fin wednes day evenings when the library closes at 8 pm during june july august and september the library closes at 8 pm excepting saturday evening when it closes at 9 pm 3 tho library remains closed on holidays including bankllolidays easter monday and juno 3rd 6 lending and ed tea with mrs arthur carruthers mrs george carruthes mrs e allen assisted in the diningroom during the evening mrs j e hainbly of toronto and mrs d j williantso n poured with mrs e nigh miss g hambley and miss j brodie serving mrs icarruthers was becomingly gowned in black and white georgette wearing a crystal neck lace a gift from a sister in cali fornia prior to her marriage she was miss nancym forrester eldest daughter of the late william and mary knowles forrester of picker ing mr carruthers was the eldest son of the late richard and eliza beth mason carruthers also of pickering they wero married on juno 24th 1s73 by elder alexander anderson a scottish pioneer minis ter of the disciples of christ in ontario and have resided on maplo leaf farm ever since mr car ruthers lias no living brothers or sisters while liis wife lias two sisters and one brother mrs malcolm and miss fannie forrester of pasa dena and fred forrester of flint michigan only two who wero guests at the wedding of sixty years ago are still living mrs malcolm of pasadena and mrs carrie bailey of seattle washington the carruthers family consisting of six sons and three daughters were all present except charles of california they are- arthur of pickering charles of los angeles ethel reg nurse of toronto geo of brantford orville k of the staff of bloor collegiate toronto and mary c jennie harold and fred at home six of the s grandchildren were present xmong those present were mrs e allen of indio california mrs m carruthers of oxbow sask mr and mrs georgo carruthers of bantford rev and mrs j for their kind messages of congratulations the cnr afternoon mixed train popularly known as tho hog special which has run continu ously through stouffville for 40 years was discontinued last week presumably because it was not do ing sufficient business to warrant its operation this train usually arrived in stouffville at or near four oclock and in tho days before the motor car was a popular way to travel to toronto for anyone who wished to go down during the afternoon its patronage was extended far beyond human passengers for thousands of hogs and cattle could be counted in the monthly checkup with the coming of the truck competitions even the business of carrying hogs dwindled to an unprofitable figure and in future they will be cared for by- the freight train which will handle tho business three days a week tho passenger train service on this lino is now confined to the regu lar mail trains ono each way to and from the city both morning and evening which should bo ample service locals and proved almost invincible as far as the aurora visitors were concerned he struck out eight men and allowed but three hits aurora used two pitchers kay and vail but even this failed to stem stouffvilles flow of hits jack pennock and allen pope prov ed themselves the best men at tho plate on the stouffville lineup each knocking out two doubles in threo times at bat the local boys went out
