aching head ho was struck over the head with a pitch- cork in tho hands of sam moore hired man who came on the pair just as they were leaving with two full hags of wheat moore told constable vessey of uxbridge who investigated that he often goes out to tho barn about midnight to see that everything is all right for the night ho had reached the back of the barn when he saw a light flash about in the granary quietly he slipped into the barn hoping to find out who the intruders were then went out again to see if ho could find any car or truck by which the thieves had ar rived there failing to find any vehicle he went back to the barn to be met at the door by the two men coming out each carried a bag of wheat over his shoulder and one had a pail which had been used to fill the bags in the meantime moore had armed himself with a pitchfork and without further preamble struck one of the men over the head the man went down but before moore could do any further damage the second man threw his bag of wheat at him knocking him to the ground the first one got up and the pair disappeared in tho darkness both bags used were marked police state and it is known who owns the pail so arrests newer and more uptodate lines than they are about getting right with god so declared rev wm imoyer pastor of the stouff ville menuonite church in his fare well sermon preached on sunday evening to an overcrowded house chairs had to be placed in the aisles to accommodate all those who sought admission mr moyer founded his text on the incident in the life of jesus when he was being entertained at the home of mary and martha and as told by st luke martha com plained to the master about the apparent indifference of her sister mary to the preparation of the meal mary sought only to sit at the feet of her lord and marvel at his say ings the masters reply mary hath chosen that good part indi cated that secular things of life were decidedly secondary to the spiritual there is one thing need ful formed the basis of the strong appeal issued by mr moyer to his largo congregation to get right with god improving our lot here on earth by enjoying the sweets that are ours was all very well and swiped and knowing that a man has to hand back stolen goods re fused to negotiate but was disil lusioned when another party beat the vendor down to an even five and drove away with the supposed plunder crawford soon got his eyes open to the fact that agricultural stock didnt need to be stolen to be of fered at a sacrifice on the free state market the temptation to steal was removed as a man 8 1932 to mr and mrs c h burgar nee edna tarr s3 wovorlelgh bvld a son robert john of the 4th instant the matter was discussed pro and con by this body for some three hours but with no final decision it should be noted that the membership of this league for social reconstruction is very large ly composed of university men and women the professionorates of tho university ot toronto mcgill and victoria are brilliantly represented in the league and it is a signifi cant fact that the programme for social betterment proposed by the league is on allfour with that of the federation the question of whether or not the united farmers of ontario should unite with the cooperative commonwealth for political purpos es will be discussed at the annual convention to be held at toronto in december ot this year it is then of the utmost importance that serious consideration should be given the grave proposals being raised by all who are interested with a view to inaugurating such deliberations it is proposed to call a public meeting to be addressed by miss agnes mcphail and others who will set forth their views as to what action should be taken then it is suggested that this should be followed by a planned programme for tho study and dis cussion of these questions for the coming winter certainly in no historical epoch has the wellbeing of such masses ot people been so gravely menaced as in tho days even now passing it behoves us all to give serious thought to the ills that afflict society with a view of mending or ending them particularly must tho farming group be made to see that if its economic status is to bo im proved it can only bo done by the united action of tho members of that group the tribune invites dis cussion on this matter and will accord liberal space to any letters relative to tho question ing year resulted as follows counsellor dr john graham bolton ontario vicecounsellor dr walter shier uxbridge newmarket extended an invita tion to tho convention to meet there
