alberta informs us by letter that lie has excellent prospects for a good crop this year mr sherrick says that table cream in his market town only brings ten cents a quart its amazing to most easterners how the western farmer hangs on out there with so many adversities last week when we reported mr daniel miller as 82 years of age we underrated his years and herebv make correction mr miller cele brated his 86th anniversary last june and has high hopes of reach ing many more before he gets a call to a higher world he has a very bright mind for a man of his years and as he explains if it was not for a couple of wobbly legs he would be as good as any man of 0 0 dan miller was born in markham town ship in what is now the old black smith shop almost opposite the wideman mennonite church on the sth that wits his fathers home at that time and much of the old building is still doing service it is 40 years since this veteran citi zen moved into stouffville and he was not here many years until he built his present house just south of where the old baptist church stood on main street a visit among the home folk al ways holds a secret delight for former old boys and so when wo motored to beaverton on sunday in company with dr d c smith and mr norman m mnclean it was not hard to perceive the merry twinkle in their eyes as they greet ed scores of old friends from omemee woodville eldon town ship and other local places there it was tho occasion of the 100tl anniversary of the stone church congregation the old stone struc ture that has served for 90 years was not able to accommodate the crowd on sunday afternoon the service was transferred to the pleas ant grounds adjoining the nearly century old buiding like john wesleys famous church on the out skirts ot old london the old stono kirk has a high pulpit one must ascend a winding stair of 10 or more steps to reach the sacred desk we overheard an old gentleman telling how when ho was a boy his neck ached as ho sat in second to front pew and was forced to look upwards for an hour at a stretch as tho preacher delivered his sermon dr a w hare present pastor con ducted tho services tho right rev dr robert johnston moderator of the presbyterian church in canada delivered tho sermon the rev d macodrum brockville asslstedand tho rev mr w s smith clerk of the presbytery spoke the prayers nover in my life said dr john ston have i spoken before such a great congregation there is more than stono and mortar in a little building that can draw such a multi tude together ho spoke on loyalty ablo to enjoy further visits among to tho home state and church instl- hcr lifelong friends here itutlons truly divine with the samo longing for tho truth as king charlie ii had for an enquino when he called a horse my kingdom for a horse was the predicament of charlio ward on thursday last when his wife informed him that a telephone message from whitby in formed them that they were the lucky owners of the now pontiac six coach given away in the draw at the ontario county- town tho previous evening charlie is said to have dono some wild shuffling for his two tickets to confirm tho numbers given over the telephone and then did some quick figuring ho wasnt long finding out that a practical joker was at work the car had been given to one stanley carkeek of albert street oshawa who held the lucky ticket and was present when tho draw was made charlie wasnt long thrown off the track by the joker and with the sagacity of a whole battalion of scots ho promptly ferreted out the real facts of the draw and then put his better- half and all other well wishers right on who really won tho car hence tho hope that springs eternal was really short lived on this occasion king bug killer a dry powder for
