mas ter of the grand lodge of canada in the province of ontario mw bro john a rowland vras the guest of honor and over 500 masons from the eight lodges in itie district were present for the occasion to insure the success of such a large undertaking entailed consider able work but most of the officeis of stouffville lodge and many of the private members entered into the spirit of the task so whole heartedly that everything was con ducted in excellent maimer then too the ladies played no small part in preparing the banquet which was a stupendous undertaking but they handled it with skill and prompt ness that was a source of satisfac tion to not only the guests of the evening but to local masons the ever willing hand of rw bro whealy representative of the grand master in this district solved many of the problems of preparation and to him the local order owe thanks for valued assistance at 7 pm the lodge converted in the auditorium which had been specially prepared for the purpose with suitable lodge regalia and which provided seating for over 475 wor m clayton baker of richard son lodge received some sixty grand lodge officers in due form including the grand master j a rowland also the uepucy grand master rw bro hon john s mar tin hon w d mcplierson pgm and several district deputies and past district deputies a pleasing feature of the occasion was the presentation of minton china pieoestotbe grand master on behalf of the district lodges following this there was the pre sentation on ibehalf of richardson lodge of a past masters jewell to w bro k ross davis the imme diate the game was a pitchers battle between bruce lehman for the winners and mchale for the newmarket team each pitcher struck out 8 men mc hale yielded only 3 hits and bruce lehman only 2 both of which were made by hugo the heavy hjtter of the visiting team the stouffville team played rrorless ball behind lehman while the visitors made a couple0f errors one of which paved the wajr for the only run of the game it was the finest game of ball played hene in a longilmeand the stouffville team nd especially their pitcher deserve great credit for the game put up in view of the fact that they had very little prac tice this season and had never been all together on the field at one time there was a fairly good bunch of fans present the team deserve the support of the town and we trust at the next while the whole world today is learning and must learn universality we freemasons of all men ought to know it already our fraternity is a living exemplification of many men throughout the world brotherhood other toasts included those of the suburban lodges the visit ing brethrea and to the ladles who played so important a part in making the evenings enjoyment one grand success the visit of the grand master to this town will be rooked upon by local masons as a signal honor for stouffville and all who participated james lyons late minister of mines in the ontario government was seized with a heart aitackand was found dead by his family a short time later the late mr lyons was in his seventyfifth year and had lived in virginia for many years about a week ago the godson contracting co shipped two car loads of machinery on flat cars from cannington they took every precaution giving the heightwidth and weight of the shipment to the cnr and in retujrn got a clear ance receipt as the train was pass ing under the bay street overhead bridge the mixer which was about four inches too high crashed into the bridge and swept everything from the car leaving a twisted mass of debris on stouffville united church excellent music is promised admission 35 and 25 cents the division court high on a hill overlooking peace ful barrie and the quiet waters of beautiful kempenfeldt bay the flery cross of the ku klux klan ominous ly reared itself on sunday evening last veek several hundred mem bers of the ku klux klan of kan- ada assembled in barrie coming by motor and ttc busses from all parts of central ontario on satur day afternoon and sunday forenoon and in spite of the refusal by civic officials to allow them the use of one of the towns parks held after noon and evening sessions in hub bards field at the north end of tor onto street throngs of curious townspeople numbering many hun dreds braved a bitterly cold north wind to watch the proceedings of both gatherings in hear the cases to be tried in division court his honor judge widdifield presided and aside from a judgment sum mons case which was heard in camera only one case was on the docket it provided sufficient interest how ever to hold the crowd for a couple of hours aw snowball thresher of mark- bam township claimed 120 dam ages from d graham farmer of the 10th concession of the same town ship the action arose out of an accident at grahams farm in oct 1924 during threshing operations when a team belonging to the de fendant became frightened at es caping steam from the engine and jumped onto the cutting box badly damaging the box in order to set tle the matter without law costs the two men decided on arbitration snowball selecting arthur lapp to act for him and graham selecting h s clary of locust hill these two picked the third man being r a fleming of markham f l button for mr graham contended that the arbitrators never really sat as mr clary objected to certain methods employed wnen they came together but tho other two agreed on a sum of 10c as a proper amount for graham to reimburse snowball and gave a written find ing to each of the men concerned a week after clary refused to partici pate in the arbitration his honor reserved judgment to determine whether the arbitrators were properly selected and convened and if not then to determine the amount of damages if any that general hos pital on sunday may 30th in the passing of mrs bertram taun who since her marriage two years ago lived on the j w taun farm lot 11 con 5 whitchurch mrs taun was only 29 years of age and had been ill a couple or months being in the hospital four weeks until she finally passed away suffering from internal trouble from which recovery was impossible the late mrs taun was a happy bright girl beloved by a wide circle of friends her maiden name was maggie myrtle empringham daughter pf mr and mrs j w empringham of hisey hill gormley besides her husband and parents there also sur vives
