I am writing to you because I fear that the city that we left behind is creeping towards us and that the “country close to the city' will soon be absorbed. While I realize that development cannot be totally stopped for a variety of reasons. I can only hope that our town council will have the strength and wisdom to slow urban sprawl to a crawl. The een space that still exists as one n'ves north from Toronto to Stouffville is the only thing that currently keeps 'them' from 'us'. That distance provides us with a very unique and pleasant place to live. I'm sure you are well aware that with population growth comes an increse in crime. traffic congestion, anonymity, pollution. just to name a Ame 2004 M?! husband and l are so happ to be iving in Stouffville. It is ike stefping back in time about 30 years an I mean that in a ositive way. The slower pace, the 'endliness, the tranquility and the civility are so refreshing having come from the big city. When my husband and I drive into Scarborough to work each day, we realize just how lucky we were to escape from the big city and all of its problems. To the Editor: I was born and raised in downtown Toronto and over the years I've lived in various neighbourhoods throughout the city; My last house was in Scarborough and. after spending a year looking for the right house in the right locale. my husband and I settled on the town of Stouffville. While I‘m not sure that I would ask that town council focus its attention on our old section of town which could use some revitalization. Perhaps tax break incentives or rent reductions could be considered to attract new business interest.
