It follows a larger fundraising event SIP held in October in which MarkhamStouffville MP Jane Philpott attended. "It was one of our best dinners, people gave quite generously," Kerswill said. That event raised $24,000 and is for regular operations of the charity which includes the management of a medical clinic in Igoma that employees 36 doctors, nurses and other employees. The fundraising events help the charity plan its annual budget. Kerswill says the outlook for 2017 looks promising. "We're able to keep our programs running at the pace they've been running at in previous years, where our biggest focus is finishing the furnishings of our minor theatre so they can do surgeries, give out eyeglasses, rent it out to dentists," he explained. SIP recently received $10,000 from local charity 100 Women Who Care, which facilitates the operating theatre project. A team is planned to return to Igoma in September 2017.
