In recently announcing their annual awards for 2016, The PGA of Ontario named Brunton as their Teacher of the Year. For Brunton, who is a Master Professional, it marked the second time he has attained this honour with the first being in 2014. "It's very nice and I'm thrilled," he said of the honour bestowed upon him. With this year representing the first time an individual could repeat as a winner in a specific category, Brunton was informed he was among those nominated after someone brought his name up for consideration. During the selection process, he had to submit an information package of his past credentials. A part of which included authoring two golf books, being Canada's men's national team coach from 1999-2011, a three-time PGA of Canada national award winner, 2009 Junior Leader of the Year, being the only Canadian recognized as a GOLF Magazine Top 100 teacher and the lone Canadian to be receive the Five-Star Professional Award - the PGA of Europe's highest honour. In attaining his latest achievement, Brunton said it's special in that it came from his local peers. As for what might have given him the nod over others nominated, the Ottawa native speculated it centered on his work locally and beyond. Brunton hopes his latest accomplishment will carve a path for other aspiring teaching pros to follow. "You don't have to limit yourself to being a teaching pro in Ontario," he said. As this year's recipient, Brunton will represent the province when the PGA of Canada makes its selection for their national coach of the year in January. DISCOVER THE PICKERING COLLEGE DIFFERENCE!
