COMMUNITY 11 | Stouffville Sun-Tribune | Thursday, October 27, 2016 The Sosins move in; Habitat for Humanity GTA home complete Ali Raza aliraza@yrmg.com Stouffville's got a new family that just moved in, and it's a cause for celebration. Habitat for Humanity GTA celebrated the completion of the Sosin family home at 6554 Main St. in Stouffville on Oct. 18. Approximately 200 volunteers from WhitchurchStouffville helped the Sosin family built their bungalow as part of a five-week Habitat for Humanity GTA "Blitz Build" that began in late August. Craig Sosin, his wife Keiko Sosin and their two children, Audrey and Blue, lived in a two-bedroom apartment in Richmond Hill. The family faced cramped living conditions and daily expenses inhibited saving for a downpayment toward a home. As a result, the Sosins reached out to Habitat for Humanity GTA through York Region Housing. Now that their new home is finally complete, Stouffville's newest family can't stop smiling. "It feels exhilarating, exciting," Craig said. "We're so happy to be in Stouffville, it's such a great community. We're excited to have a home and be homeowners. "I think the kids want to choose their rooms, it's an exciting time for them too," he added. Keiko, who delivered a speech at the ceremony, was overjoyed. "I still can't believe it, we're getting a home," she said. The home dedication ceremony was led by 105.9 The Region morning host Jim Lang, who served as MC. WhitchurchStouffville mayor Justin Altmann and Ward 5 councillor Iain Lovatt also spoke, thanking the community for their help and welcoming the Sosin family to Stouffville. "Fifty-eight days ago we were here cutting a ribbon and putting up a wall," Lovatt said. "Every nail put into this home was hammered in by a volunteer; to me it's symbolic and reflective of the heart of our community." The build was a joint effort from the community involving local businesses, organizations and faith groups, who provided financial and volunteer support. Geranium Corporation and Silvio Construction were among several donors, including local churches. Reverend Don Beyers from Christ Church Anglican delivered a prayer for the Sosins and their new home at the ceremony. Mike Barrett/Metroland Habitat for Humanity GTA celebrates the completion of the first home build in Stouffville. The Sosin family, mother Keiko, father Craig, Audrey and Blue, received the key to the home in a dedication ceremony Oct. 18.
