In addition to staging a Play for Jay Soccer Tournament, other activities will include: bubble soccer, humans foosball, face painting, mobile petting zoo, magic show, dancing and an inflatable obstacle course. Those attending can get food from a barbecue that will run during the day and listen to music. Proceeds will go to Make A Wish. Karen Sortino, a WSSC spokesman, said the day will be highlighted by the unveiling of a tree and bench at the Bethesda Sports Fields in honour of Jaylen at 2 p.m. Artist's grim past portrayed in next show at Latcham Gallery Anishinaabe (Saulteaux) artist Robert Houle's paintings portray a grim past; from his time spent in a residential school in his youth. Houle's paintings will be featured in an exhibit at the Latcham Gallery in Stouffville from Oct. 1 to Nov. 12. An opening reception is slated for Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m., where Houle will be present to greet visitors. Houle's paintings, using oil stick on paper, reflect his memories from the residential school he attended at the Sandy Bay First Nation (Kawikwetawankak) in Manitoba in the early 1960s. "The works are both direct and ethereal," Latcham Gallery's press release reads. "Presenting recalled fragments of trauma that are sparingly and painfully captured." The exhibit Memory Drawings features 27 pieces which the gallery calls "a personal record of the trauma endured while at the Sandy Bay residential school". The aim of the exhibit is to open space for dialogue to increase awareness and understanding of the effects the residential school system has left on Canada's indigenous communities Houle is a member of the Sandy Bay First Nation in Manitoba, but he lives and works in Toronto. A contemporary artist, Houle has exhibited his work in galleries at home and abroad. His exhibits featured in Canadian galleries include the Art Gallery of Ontario, the McMaster Museum of Art, the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Robert McLaughlin Gallery. Internationally, Houle's work has been presented at the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris, the Jordan National Gallery in Amman, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
