Why the rush to approve fill permit, council? Re: Risk of contaminants? Councillor says yes, owner says no, after Stouffville council passes gravel pit amendment, Sept. 1 Is the Town of WhitchurchStouffville about to repeat mistakes made in the 1960s and `70s in regards to the dumping of toxic materials at the infamous dump site on Hwy.48 north of Bloomington Road? An amendment to the fill permit for United Soils Management, which would allow for the dumping of questionable material from hydro-vac trucks, was hastily approved by councillors Kroon, Smith, Upton and Ferdinand, ignoring a request by Mayor Altmann and councillors Hargrave and Lovatt to defer the matter two weeks for further study. This site is less than one mile east of the Hwy. 48 dump site and could potentially contaminate new wells being drilled less than half a mile south in a new subdivision in the hamlet of Bloomington. There is a large amount of water on this site which could readily become contaminated by the proposed dumping could leach into the aquifer. One would have to question the ability of town staff to monitor this site. There is another fill site southeast of Bloomington and Hwy. 48. This site is less than 500 metres north of one of the town's wells which supplies some drinking water to the village of Stouffville. Also, there was the ongoing LETTERS TO the Do we live in Stouffville or Newmarket or ??? EDITOR court case regarding the Hwy. 48 Bolender property in Ballantrae. This site lies at the headwaters of the East Holland River and could potentially contaminate the town well located at Aurora Road and McCowan which supplies water to the community of BallantraeMusselman's Lake. Council should initiate a hold on this amendment and conduct further studies. This operation will continue for at least 15 to 25 years. "What is the big rush?" Kayt Barclay Whitchurch-Stouffville Re: `Whitchurch-Stouffville' mailing addresses changing, Aug. 4 Help! I don't know where I live! In mid-July we received a letter from Canada Post saying that, as of Aug. 15, they were changing our mailing address from Newmarket L3Y 4W1 to Stouffville L4A 2L7. A couple of weeks after that we read in the Stouffville SunTribune that our town name must read as Whitchurch-Stouffville not just Stouffville. Yesterday I tried to type any and all of the above addresses into a website to have something delivered and it wouldn't accept any as a valid address. So I went on the Canada Post website last night and looked up the postal code for our street address. It said we live in Newmarket L4A 2L7. Just to double check I also searched the section that says "find an address from a postal code". It said we live in the town of Stouffville L4A 2L7. The moral of the story, you ask? If you need to get in touch with me, phone me. 9 | Stouffville Sun-Tribune | Thursday, September 15, 2016 Esther Mangione (who lives somewhere north of Stouffville, east of Newmarket, but actually closest to Aurora) Send letters to the editor to newsroom@ yrmg.com Stouffville Churches Welcome You Anglican Church of Canada 254 Sunset Blvd., 905-640-1461 www.stouffvilleanglican.ca 905-591-3200 6273 Main St., Stouffville Christ Church To ST.
