Those were the clear words of Alec Cloke, owner and operator of United Soils Management Ltd., who told the Sun-Tribune on Tuesday that there was no risk of contamination as a result of a recently-passed amendment. Whitchurch-Stouffville town council approved an amendment for the fill management plan regarding United Soils' gravel pit site at 14245 Ninth Line, located between Bloomington Road and Musselman's Lake, last week. But not all councillors were convinced. Councillors Maurice Smith, Ken Ferdinands, Rick Upton and Hugo Kroon voted to pass the motion, while Rob Hargrave, Iain Lovatt and Mayor Justin Altmann voted against it. The vote followed a lengthy discussion led by Hargrave concerning the possibility of contaminates being brought into the site as a result of the amendment, which will open the site to "acceptable fill from small quantity source sites and hydro-excavation trucks," the council report said.
