The site -- 14245 Ninth Line, Concession 9, part of Lot 14 -- is home to a large pit that was previously used in a gravel extraction program by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The MNR's licence has been surren- dered and the current operator of the site is requesting an amendment that would allow a limited number of pre-approved contractors to temporarily stockpile excess fill in a restricted area of the site. Currently, the operator imports clean fill for the gravel pit under the town's site alteration by-law 2014101-RE. The current plan requires an assessment of each source site of excess fill to the property. While the regulation works for large-scale infrastructure projects that generate the bulk of excess fill, it is not practical for smallscale construction projects that take days to complete, a press release from the town says. The town will test all sources of stockpile to meet standards of acceptable quality.
