The event is set for Aug. 25 on Main Street, running from 6 to 9 p.m. Unlike previous years, Main will not be closed off, but instead covered with booths from local organizations and merchants, live bands on Freel Lane, classic cars and activities for children. "The event is actually two events wrapped together," town economic development officer David Tuley said. "The 10-year-old Inside Whitchurch-Stouffville, which features a chance to meet community organizations for family programming and learning about volunteer opportunities and the far older, Moonlight Madness, which is a downtown sidewalk sale." Tuley says the point of the event is to support local businesses and the local business district. Local merchants made requests to not shut down Main and not to bring outside businesses such as food trucks. As a result, the town has set up activities in partnership with local businesses. The Smokery will feature barbecued brisket at picnic tables at Main and Edward Street, live music and craft beer will be available on Free, alongside the Earl of Whitchurch, and an activity area will be set up in front of the Latcham Gallery. Inside Whitchurch-Stouffville will be set up in Civic Square in front of the Lebovic Centre for Arts & Entertainment (19 on the Park). "We have over 25 registered groups," said Inside Whitchurch-Stouffville organizer John Pappas. "It ranges from the York Regional Police to smaller organizations like Rock Your Biz, an organization that networks women in the community running their own businesses." Live music will be performed by Ben Reines, Patrick Dorie, Heather Luckhart and David Chown. Tuley says as the event is already a hit with residents, the town aims to expand it next year. "You can expect more partnerships with business, which means more activity," he said. Paul J.
