Mayor Justin Altmann's second annual golf tournament is scheduled for Aug. 25 at the Sleepy Hollow Golf & Country Club. Money raised will go to the mayor's community fund, which goes to help local charities and initiatives. Originally planned for July 21, the tournament was postponed due to family matters, the mayor said. "We postponed it, but everything will be the same," Altmann said. "With family matters going on we didn't know where we would be or what would happen, the focus wasn't there." Tickets and foursomes are still available. Individuals seeking to participate can be placed in a foursome by organizers. The schedule, same as advertised before, starts with a registration and breakfast at 7 a.m. The tournament then has a shotgun start at 8 a.m. continuing until 11:30 a.m. when lunch is served. The second shotgun start is scheduled for 1 p.m. with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Sponsorship opportunities are available at different pricing levels. A hole sponsorship costs $250 while different levels go up from $1,500 to $5,000. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Registration fees are $1,100 for the 8 a.m. shotgun foursome and $1,100 for the 1 p.m. shotgun foursome. For a single contest, the fee is $40, for a foursome contest it's $100. For guests hoping to join dinner alone, the dinner fee is $75. High attendance is expected. "With the tournaments, we have a lot of local corporations and businesses attend," Altmann said. The mayor's community fund has gone to help the Whitchurch-Stouffville Food Bank, WhiStle Radio and Jim Thomas' annual (Student Music Scholarship) music concert. A small amount of money raised remains with the golf tournament for start-up costs next year. The remainder is transferred to the community fund. Altmann said the fund has a constitution outlining what can be done with the money. The mayor's community fund has gone to help the WhitchurchStouffville Food Bank, WhiStle Radio and ... (Student Music Scholarship) music concert. "It's not an emergency fund," he said. "But it's a fund that builds awareness and benefits the community as a whole." Altmann says this year a major initiative the fund is seeking to help is the new mobile washroom trailer. Discussed in council earlier this summer, the washroom trailer is meant to help people with disabilities during festivals and events. Donations to the trailer fund are also being accepted at the mayor's wedding. The public event takes place Aug. 6 at 12:30 p.m. in Civic Square.
