From a First World War plane fly-by to a jam-packed pancake breakfast, residents and visitors enjoyed the many offerings of the festival over the Canada Day weekend. The festival ran from June 30 to July 3 and featured a fireworks display to celebrate the country’s 149th birthday. “It was amazing, even with the rain,” said festival co-chairperson Nancy Matheson. “Everybody stuck it out and had a great time.” The weather wasn’t as sunny as the smiles seen in the crowd which covered Main Street. Canada Day was met with rain and heavy winds which cancelled a plane fly-by scheduled to coincide with the Canada Day celebrations. But the fireworks were a blast. “The feedback we’re getting is it was the best fireworks to date,” Matheson said. “It just keeps growing and growing, keeps getting better and better.” Spectators did see a plane fly-by on Saturday morning at 10:45 a.m. Matheson described seeing a sea of faces looking up into the sky. Several hundreds of people wanted more than just the fly-by, evidenced by the 1,000 visitors at the Roy Brown exhibition at 19 on the Park. Visitors caught a glimpse into the life of Captain Arthur Roy Brown, the RAF pilot credited for shooting down the “Red Baron”.
