Town moves CAO from `sick' to `administrative leave' By Ali Raza 9 | Stouffville Sun-Tribune | Thursday, June 2, 2016 aliraza@yrmg.com Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville CAO Marc Pourvahidi is now on administrative leave due to a "personnel matter" according to a press release issued by the municipality Friday morning. The release explains that the "personal" matter relates to an individual employee who remains nameless and that specific details cannot be released as a result. Pourvahidi had been on "sick leave" since late April, which he later confirmed to the Toronto Star in an interview. While on sick leave, neither the town nor Pourvahidi confirmed a return date and his leave was described as undetermined. Now on administrative leave, the duration is "unknown", the town's press release states. The leave differs from Pourvahidi's previous sick leave as it is a "paid leave of absence implemented by the employer," town corporate communications specialist Glenn Jackson said in an email. As to who made the decision to switch Pourvahidi from sick leave to administrative leave, Jackson said "we cannot discuss further except to say it was a decision by the corporation". PAID absence Current interim CAO Rob Raycroft, who also holds the position of leisure services director, will remain as interim CAO until further notice. Raycroft replaced Fire Chief Rob McKenzie for the interim position on May 10, after McKenzie held it for two weeks. Pourvahidi was hired as town CAO on May 5, 2015 after serving as acting CAO since March 2015 when former CAO Andrew McNeely was put on administrative leave. McNeely resigned on April 21, 2015, after 12 months on the job. He took over for Dave Cash, who unexpectedly retired after seven years. Raycroft is now the fourth person to sit in the CAO's chair since the beginning of last year amid an exodus of approximately 30 town employees. The town released a human resources strategic plan this spring to address staff issues that -- according to a recent review of planning & development services staff -- is causing backlogs due to a shortage of employees.
