Stouffville families will soon be able to purchase them right here. His works will soon be available in Canada at the Thomas Kinkade gallery, in the same plaza as the Golden Eagle Art Gallery on Ringwood Drive in west-end Stouffville. "Golden Eagle is a partner in having brought the Kinkade product line here to Stouffville," said Golden Eagle owner Larry Groskopf. "We've been involved in selling his artwork, now there's a broad range of art that'll be featured in the new showroom." On April 23 and 24, the gallery will hold its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. With just a few weeks before Mother's Day, the gallery is offering a free open edition print to all mothers who visit. Born in 1958 in Placerville, California, Kinkade was a prolific painter of gardens, landscapes, seascapes, street scenes, cottages, estates, cityscapes, lighthouses, holiday scenery and commemorative American landmarks. He died in 2012, but during his life he sold many paintings in the United States and Europe. "We're bringing it to Canada now," said Mark Sibilia, president of Thomas Kinkade Canada. "We've chosen Stouffville as our headquarters because we feel this is the kind of demographic that's close to what his art is all about." Portion of proceeds from all limited edition prints sold will be donated to a Stouffville charity. Kinkade used strong contrasts between light and dark in his paintings with strong pastel colours. "His art is about making you feel good," Sibilia said. "He was called the painter of light because he always made a holistic sun or sky, as well as he would do all these homes and put the light in the window that makes you feel warm." Sibilia says the success of Kinkade's paintings in "middle America" come because of the relatable themes he employed. The Kinkade gallery is at 18 Ringwood Dr. For more information visit www.kinkadecanada.ca or call Golden Eagle at 905642-2279.
