12 Stouffville Sun-Tribune | Thursday, March 24, 2016 | COMING UP Cross walk, Easter Bunny on Main St. By Ali Raza Saturday, March 26 Find those eggs aliraza@yrmg.com We're all excited and ready for Easter weekend, and so is the town. Throughout the weekend, Stouffville will have several Good Friday services and Easter celebrations across the community. It starts with the annual Good Friday Cross Walk and Ecumenical Service, organized by Christ Church Stouffville, St. James Presbyterian Church, Stouffville United Church and Lemonville United Church. The walk starts at Christ Church at 8:30 a.m., but participants can join at any time along Main Street. The route will end at Stouffville United Church just in time for the ecumenical service at 10 a.m. "Last year there were 15 to 20 of us," said Rev. Elizabeth Cunningham of Stouffville United Church. "The service rotates every year, this year it's at my church. There will be a combined choir of all the churches." Participants will have the chance to carry a large cross over their shoulder as a reflection of tradition. Cunningham, who only moved to Stouffville last year, says she likes the tradition. In earlier times, churches often did processions out in local neighbourhoods, so she believes it is refreshing to see something similar. "I like it, it's just bringing the faith out of the buildings and into the public space for a short time," Cunningham said. On Easter Sunday, a Sonrise Service is scheduled with her church and St. James at the Millard Street reservoir at 7 a.m. Worship services continue at St. James at 10 a.m. and Stouffville United Church at 10:30 a.m. The town is hosting egg hunts downtown and at the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum and Community Centre Saturday. The museum egg hunt takes at 1 p.m. running until 2:30 p.m. Preregistration is required with the cost set at $10 for children and $5 for adults. Participants will have the chance to decorate cookies with an Easter theme. The popular downtown egg hunt will begin at the train station where children can meet and go on a tour of downtown businesses. Participants will be given a passport that they can stamp after visiting local businesses. Upon return to the train station, they will be given Easter candy. The tour leaves four times: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. The Easter Bunny will hop by and pose for photographs.
