Despite coming up short, the Clippers had the good fortune of receiving an invite to take to the ice to compete in the International Silver Stick finals in Pelham last weekend. The Clippers made the most of that opportunity as they skated off with their division's Tier 2 title that was capped off with a 5-0 win over the Huntsville Otters in Sunday's final. "It sure feels great," said Clippers' head coach Corrado Messina, who was nursing a broken foot and was limited in getting in on his club's post-game celebrations. "The boys did exactly what we coached them to do." In reaching the final, the Clippers split their four-game round robin that included an opening game loss to host Pelham 1-0 before rebounding to down Arvada, Colo. 5-2 and then suffering a 4-2 loss to London and then routing Santa, Clara, Calif. 11-0 in their final tilt. With a 2-2 record, the Clippers advanced to the semifinal where they skated off with a 3-0 win over Petrolia Saturday to punch their ticket into Sunday's finale. Reflecting on the championships, Messina felt the key to their success stemmed from their unselfish play.
