The statement was included in an application to a York Region Joint Compliance Committee requesting Altmann’s 2014 mayoral campaign financial statements be subjected to a forensic audit. The request will go to a public hearing in Stouffville later this month. Hilton is the husband of former Ward 4 coun- cillor Susanne Hilton. After 11 years, she opted to not run in the last election. “The fact is the financial statement just didn’t add up and I felt there was a need to take a closer look,” Hilton told The Sun-Tribune. “I think that as a citizen it’s very important we protect the values of the electoral system. ... It is so important we maintain fairness and we maintain honesty in these things,” Hilton said in an interview. Altmann won a five-man race for mayor last Oct. 27. Altmann called the accusations inaccurate, a waste of taxpayers’ money and said he has all his receipts in his office for anyone to look at, during an interview last week.
