She and her brother. Ewart. enjoyed an active lite with their parents. Elmer and Ruth. The tamin was much engaged in public service and in their church. with Elmer serving as Reeve ot Swansea and later as M.P.P. tor West York. Atter graduating from the University oi Toronto. Barbara interned at Toronto General Hospital to become a Erotessional dietician. She worked as a dietician tor Mapie eat Mills until her marriage to Jim. Barbara and Jim spent their tirst year oi marriage in Cambridge. England. before moving to Kingston where they made their home for the rest ot her lite. She never returned to a dietician roIe. devoti horse" wim dedication. energy and m_u_ch enjoyment t_o_ eflet Catherine and Ian anq Jim. She was superbly gitted at creating a warm and supportive home environment. with her trequent early- moming creation ot a broad range ot belted breakfast treats being just one memorable example. Alter Catherine and Ian left home to melte their own lives. she did work tor a low years in one ol the medical labs at Queen's but her maior activitiesoutsidethehomewerechomlsingingendarange oi volunteer roles - as a CGlT leader. as an assistant at Red Cross. as a volunteer at Hospice Kingston. and as a fitness exercise leader for elders at both the Red Cross and the Senior Centre. She was active tor decades in a variety 0t roles at Cooke's-Portsmouth United Church. in some of which she was a trailblazer as the 'tirst woman'. As a Kihgston, in ch'oirs she sought out durin stays in Abeyde‘en. Sogfland and ‘inJCa _ ridge. gngtq _. 9nd most particularly and enioyably. in the Kingston Choral Society. Barbara obtained much pleasure lrem experiencing new guess and talking to new people. and she traveled widely. ighiights included three separate opportunities to live for a year in the United Kingdom and. in early retirement years. three gloriously long trips to New Zealand and Australia. She enjoyed garden rig. walking in the countryside. reading. music. dancing. and. in her youth. figure skating. She was graceful in movement and particularly enjoyed activities where her movements were uided by music. Always careful at her fitness. she walk with Jim to his work tor a couple at decades. a return walk clover an hour. She became ill several ears belore her death. and the illness progressed steadi y. She laced this with her usual stoicism. fortitude and grace. and was stilt able to light up a room with her warm smile right to the end. Loving. gentle. kind. happy. trusting. she is sorely missed. She is survived by her husband Jim. at Kingston. by Catherine and her tamity (Steve Williams. Calium. Cameron and Shona) in Stoutlvitle. and by tan and his tamily (Beverly Whitelaw.
