11, Stouffville Sun-Tribune n www.yorkregion.com n Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 Town anxious to get jobs BY SANDRA BOLAN sbolan@yrmg.com Land across the road from the SmartCentres plaza is one step closer to being developed. Zhawd Corp., c/o Corebridge Development Corp. wants to develop 68 of the 85.8 acres on the northeast corner of Hwy. 48 and Hoover Park Drive. A public meeting regarding the proposed draft plan of subdivision takes place Thursday in council chambers, 111 Sandiford Dr., 7 p.m. GET CONNECTED SEND YOUR LETTER: Email your comments and/or suggestions to jmason@yrmg.com Mr. Drozd said. "If all the stars align they could be building next year," he said, noting it's a big `if' that is highly dependant on the marketplace. "More often than not, things do take longer than you anticipate," according to Mr. Drozd. But Mr. Drozd said the town is anxious to get that land developed and have more employment opportunities available to residents, some of whom are heading south and west to work. Also on Tuesday night's public meeting agenda is a proposed zoning bylaw amendment for a property on the northeast corner of Hwy. 48 and Norman Jones Place, which is north of Millard Street. The developers want to construct a convenience store/gas bar/car wash on the 1.52 acres. The vacant property is zoned for business park use, which does not include an auto service station. Public meeting The developers do not want to change its zoning, which is industrial light and business park. But what they need to provide is a plan that fits within the zoning bylaws, according to Alan Drozd, manager of planning for the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville. This land, along with a portion east of it, was brought before council in 2012 for development approval. The eastern portion was approved for development, but there were too many issues with the western side. The developer re-designed it, which is what will be presented at the public meeting, according to Mr. Drozd. Among the approved land uses are manufacturing, body shops, office space, public garages, warehousing, adult retraining schools, fitness/recreational facilities, hotel/conference/banquet centre and place of worship, according to Mr. Drozd. Although the developer's proposal shows a very detailed parcelling of the land, "he can't sell anything because there's nothing approved," 15 Whitchurch-Stouffville: New Route 15 Stouffville Road will provide daily service between the Towns of Whitchurch-Stouffville and Richmond Hill starting February 23. a new route is on the way For complete details and schedules, visit the Service Changes page at yrt.ca or call 1-866-MOVE-YRT (668-3978). Car wash, gas bar Following the meeting, both applications will return to town staff for further evaluation. The proponents will have to address any issues brought forth by residents or other agencies. Reports will then go before council with recommendations. Our Valentine contest winning story from Stouffville Dating Rituals Coming off a very recent, very hurtful breakup, I was not really looking for a relationship. The nice guy I shared some classes with at teacher's college knew he had to overcome my reluctance to be more than friends, and had one chance to do it, or the first date would be the last. Through some clever reconnaissance, he ascertained many of my fondnesses: Shakespeare, having worked for years at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival; poetry; cows (don't ask why); and lilacs, the harbinger of spring. I was invited to his apartment, where I was met at the door with an excuse that he had to leave to attend to a few quick things not an auspicious start, I thought. With a smile, he handed me a slip of paper, told me to follow the instructions, and disappeared. Unfolding the paper, I read what was the first "clue" on a scavenger hunt: I was literally searching for romance! By decoding the clues in the candle lit rooms, I was led to various locations where I found a glass of wine, a long stemmed rose, dark chocolate, and a plush cow toy. Not bad, right? Then came the last clue. This took me to a room I had not yet entered: somehow, it contained Sean, who had managed to sneak back in while I was occupied. And the room was flooded with lilacs. Every surface, every available container, a virtual forest of lilacs. While I stood drinking in their scent, he recited a memorized Shakespearean love sonnet to me. Did it work? Well, Sonnet 116, "Let Me Not to the Marriage of True Minds Admit Impediments" was on our wedding invitation, lilacs featured in the ceremony... and this year we will celebrate our 20th anniversary. Kate and Sean, Stouffville Dating Rituals winners receive a romantic package worth over $350! The exclusive package includes a romantic weekend night getaway in a spacious two-room suite and an intimate dinner for two at Essence of Unionville restaurant in the luxurious and multi-million dollar renovated Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre & Spa. Congratulations to this year's winner! We're already looking forward to next year's tales of romance!
