He was a robust child. full of energy and fun. He loved playing tricks on his siblings and did so at every opportunity. Hockey and softball: were favourite sports. ' None of us win ever fm'gei a particular peewee play- off game in which he scored the winning goal. There was great celqbration on fami‘Jy's;side_ 9f fink. Whatever he accomplished. both athletically and academically. represented a challenge. For, from an early age. his efforts were plagued by asthma. a condi- tion requiring treatments in hospitals on both sides of the border. On two occasions. we came class: to losing him. Fast action by ï¬reï¬ghters and paramedics saved his life. Nature-loving son left us too early “ranks to drug prescriptions and diet restrictions. this medicalcondirion impmvod until. except for sea‘ sonal setbacks. he was virtually asthma free. But he kept. a portable puffer within easy reach. While his participation in sports was somewhat constrained. interest in the NHL knew no bounds. He was a huge Maple, Leaf fan. His hoots and hollcrs fol- lowing every Toronto goal would almost raise the roof. He also loved the Blue lays. ‘ As with most teenagers. family trips. once antici- pated holiday highlighis. became a little bit. tiresome. So. with his own money. he purchased ammo 1e. He and his Honda Nighthawk traveled than 5 of Ontario miles. But his git-ates! enjoyment was a simple past-lime of walking in the woods. Almost daily. weather permit- ting. he trekked the trails through the Dutham romst in Uxbridge. continually keeping track of birds and animals along the way. When deteclions pmved inde- cisive, he'd mm to, his pe‘rsonal computer. and mine. for assistance. "Huey never let him down. Paul's wood waks also had hazards. On one occa- sion. he unknowingly ventured too close to a nesting hawk.
