Bill Keenan bit the hand that fed him for 20 years and now audiences all over North America are having the last laugh. Shot inWhitchurch-Stouï¬ville, in the York Region Forest and Whitchurch Conservation Area, over 18 days in the summer of 2007, Mr. Keenan’s feature ï¬lm debut, Eating Bucca- neers, is about four self-absorbed advertising executives and their client who crash land their small plane in the Northern Ontario woods and have nothing but Buccaneer bars Stouffville can see itself as N. The cast is made up of a who’s who in Canadian comedic talent: Jeff White (Little Mosque on the Prairie), Shannon Beckner (Billable Hours), Steven McCarthy (Dead Mary) and Neil Crone, who is a high school buddy of Mr. Keenan's. Also starring in the movie is Peter Keleghan (Billable Hours, Seinfeld and The Red Green Show) whom Mr. Keenan met for the ï¬rst time a few years ago while the pair were working on a commercial together. “I took him aside and I pitched him on the idea," Mr. Keenan said. “He loved the script so much he called me and said I'm in and by the way. my partner is leah Pinsent and 1 think she would make a great Vanessa." As part of the shoot, the cast and crew had to spend one day in Algonquin Park Wanting to make a weekend of it. Mr. Keleghan and Ms Pinsent went up a few days earlier and STAFF PHOTO/STEVE SOMERVILLE brought her father â€" famed Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent, along for the trip. Mr. Pinsent read tlie scn'pt, saw what was going on and asked if he could be in the movie. “Gordon Pinsent in my ï¬rst feature ï¬lm? Let me think about that. I said Mr. Keenan said, noting he had to quickly create a character for Mr. Pinsent to play that would make sense. - The result is a sceneâ€"stealing crazy back- woods trapper.
