BY MIKE HAYAKAWA Staff Writer For a ï¬rst-year rep team, the Stouï¬ville Mustangs under-12 girls are giving a good account of themselves on the pitch. Competing in the York Region Soccer League and facing teams from Peterborâ€" ough, Oshawa, Whitby, North Toronto, Wexford, Oak Ridges, Unionville-Millikâ€" en and East Gwillimbury, the Mustangs have played eight matches to date and sport a respectable 4-1-3 mark They’re the only rep team represent« ing the Whitchurch Stouffville Soccer Club The club’s last league game took place last Thursday when they battled Oak Ridges to a 1-1 tie. Sarah McGilvray accounted for the lone Mustangs’ marker. To prove that was no fluke, the Mus- tangs have also played two York Region Soccer League cup games and have pre- vailed in each. The latest was Saturday when the Mustangs edged Peterborough 2-1 on goals by McGilvray and Vletoria Wicks. ' As a result of that, the Mustangs advanced to the semiï¬nals and will face North Toronto Aug. 16. A victory there’would vault the Mus- tangs into the ï¬nal Aug. 17 against Oak Ridges. Mustangs’ manager Christine Fergu- son attributed the early success to sever- al factors, including the solid foundation in the club's house league circuit and developmental teams. “We are Stouï¬ville's ï¬rst rep team that came from years of being together on house league teams and three years with Stouflville’s developmental teams," she said. She also feels the club is fortunate in having coaches Grant Naim and Gary McGilvray. “Grant and Gary have been abso- lutely superb with the girls. I believe our group of 16 ï¬ne young ladies have a deï¬nite rapport with each other and have learned to gel together completely as a team," she said. Other team members are Cassie Ferguson, Shannon Grinnell, Raquel McGee, Robyn Paxton, Rebecca Defor- est, Dakota Fenz, Rochelle Foo, Cristina Oprescu, Courtney Naim, Sarah Storey, Emily Kaunismaa, Jennifer King, Karlene Stoby and Carly Murray.
