The second annual Al Humphrey Memorial Ride takes place Aug. 3 and orga- nizers are looking for par- ticipants, volunteers and sponsorships. Norma Humphrey and Carin Bacher started the event last year in honour of Norma’s late husband, A], who died in 2006 after bat- tling cancer. The location, on Vandorf Road south of Ballanh‘ae, was ï¬tting Mrs Humphrey said. She and her husband used their property in the past to raisehundreds ofthousands of dollars for charities at events. While the duo didn’t have time to start the ride the summer following Mr. Humphrey’s death, they got to work preparing for the inaugural event in 2007. Last year, the event donat- ed $5,000 to the Markham Stoufl'ville Hospital Founda- tion for a palliative care unit and the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation’s Week- end to End Breast Cancer. “He was a wonderful man," said Mrs. Humphrey. “He was always there for any- body and everybody.
