BY HANNELORE VOLPE Staff Writer An evening of humour is in store for you when Yuk Yuk’s headliner Mark Walker comes to the Markham Fairgrounds Saturday for a Stouffville fund- raiser. He is joined by Yuk’ Yuk’s veterans Laun'e Elliott and Bill Maclntosh. The comedy evening is a fundraiser for the Spartans senior boys rugby team at Stouffville District Secondary School. The team is heading to Eng- land and Wales for a tour dur- ing March Break and requires $60,000 to make the trip. The team’s head coach is Jamie Hewitt. The 18 youngsters from Uganda, many of whom have lost their parents to AIDS, are performing at EastRidge Evan- gelical Missionary Church. “They dance, sing and do a combination of spiritual gospel music and their own African rhythms,†said Nancy Clark, who is co-ordinating the tour. The youngsters will stay with families from the church on Feb. 16. They perform at EastRidge church on the Sunday morn~ ing, then go to the Port Perry Pentecostal Church for a 6 pm. performance the same day. There are several Watoto Chil- dren's Choirs, which have travâ€" elled and performed around the world since 1994 to raise funds for children living in Watoto vil- lages in Uganda. Whitchurch-Stouffville News Digest The container that was ï¬lled with the help of the community last year has ï¬nally arrived at the Watoto village of Suubi, Mrs. Clark said. ’ Many residents, organiza- tions and businesses pitched in to help ï¬ll the container with items for children of all ages in the village. Watoto supports 1,364 chil- dren in Uganda. Of these, 848 live in one of 108 homes in three Watoto Villages and 516 are cared for in their extended famiâ€" lies, with help from the Watoto ministry. Fourteen young adults from Watoto villages are attending university. The choir performs at 10:45 a.m. at the church, 12485 Tenth Line, north of Main Street in Stouffville.
